Robert's POV
His phone rang for the millionth time that day, always an unknown number. He sighed and answered it.
"Listen," He said. "Stop calling me. I'm sick of it. Go bother someone else."
"Alexander," The voice hissed. "He's alive." Then they hung up. It was the same thing every day. They called, told him Alec was alive, and hung up. But he wasn't. He was dead. Someone knocked on the door, and Max walked in.
"Dad, when can we go see Isabelle?" He asked. Max had been begging him to take him to the New York Institute ever since Maryse brought him here the day Alec after had died. That was twenty days ago. Today was October 3rd. The day he had promised to take Max to see his siblings.
"Soon, Max. Just let me get my stuff ready and I'll order us a portal." Robert sighed.
Max gave a small smile. It was the first time Robert had seen him smile since September twelfth.
...
When they arrived at the New York Institute, Isabelle was the first person they saw.
"Izzy!" Max yelled, wrapping his arms around her waist. Isabelle turned around in surprise, looking down at Max. She smiled, but her face paled when she saw Robert.
"Robert. I didn't know you were coming."
"Yeah, sorry for not telling you, but Max wanted to keep it a surprise."
"Oh...okay. Make yourselves comfortable then," She said before turning on her heel and running down the hall.
Isabelle's POV
Crap. They don't know Alec is alive. Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap.
She ran into the infirmary where Alec still sat next to Magnus. He looked up at her when she walked in.
The sandwich she had given him three days ago still sat untouched on the bedside table. He had dark circles under his eyes, which were dull and the beautiful hazel color seemed to be fading, even as she looked at them.
"Alec!" She half-shouted. "You told me you would eat the sandwich!"
"I'm not hungry." His voice was hallow. Isabelle didn't like it one bit.
"I don't care if you're hungry or not. You need to eat something. And we have a problem. Max and Robert are here."
"So?"
"So, they think you're dead! And if they see you like this, they'll still think your dead. Have you looked in the mirror lately?"
Alec shook his head no. Isabelle sighed. He hadn't left this room in three days. He blamed himself for everything. But Isabelle didn't think it was his fault. If it's anyone's fault, it was Jonathan's.
Jonathan. She hated him more than anyone in the world. He had almost killed Max, he had killed Alec, and now Magnus was dying because of him.
"Alec, please."
Alec didn't answer her. She had never seen him like this. And to be honest, it scared her.
Alec's POV
Alec didn't care about anything but Magnus. He wasn't lying to Isabelle. He wasn't hungry. Or at least he didn't notice if he was. He knew he probably looked like Edom threw up on a dead skunk, but he didn't care.
But he did want to see Max. From what Jace had said, the little guy had been devasted when he had died. His parabatai had told him that the young shadowhunter had missed his training every day since. Alec sighed and looked up at Isabelle. Her face was full of worry. She placed her hand on his shoulder.
