Jace's POV
Jonathan had disappeared before Jace could kill him. So now they were back at the Institute, walking up the steps.
He had no idea if Alec and Magnus had made it back, but he hoped the blood that stained the floor on the last step wasn't Alec's. He couldn't feel anything through the parabatai bond. It was like he was dead all over again. But he wasn't. When they walked inside, everyone was talking in quiet voices.
"Where's Alec? Is he here?" Jace asked, his voice sounding way louder than it was in the quiet space.
"Yeah, he showed up with Magnus a while ago," Someone said.
"I'm here, Jace." Jace felt a hand on his shoulder and turned around to see his parabatai. His hair was wet, plastered to his forehead. He wore jeans that were ripped at the knee, probably from one of the many fights they had been in. He had on a black tank top as well, with his combat boots.
Jace hugged him. "Thank god." He whispered. Alec took a step back from him when Jace pulled away.
"What? Did you think I wouldn't be able to get here on my own?"
"No, of course not. I was just worried, that's all."
Alec smiled. "There's no need to be, Jace. I can handle myself."
He was right. Jace needed to stop worrying about him so much. Alec was an amazing fighter, more capable than half of the people in the room combined.
"What about Magnus? Is he okay?"
Alec looked down at his feet. "I don't know. He's in the infirmary. Caterina won't let me see him."
Jace looked at the hazel-eyed boy and cupped his cheek in his hand. "Hey, look at me." Alec met his eyes. "He's going to be okay," Jace whispered.
Maia and Isabelle stood there awkwardly while Luke and Clary were talking to each other in hushed tones in a corner.
Jace headed off to take a shower. He needed to think. And he needed to get all of this sweat off of him. He hated being sticky.
Alec's POV
Jace had told him to go on a walk. So he did. He slid on a black jacket, leaving the zipper open. It was sprinkling lightly outside, so he brought an umbrella just in case it started to rain harder. He didn't know where he was walking until he found himself standing on a pier. The sun was setting in a brilliant masterpiece of blue as the golden light faded over the horizon, disappearing far out into the deep blue waves. He watched as the sun melted away, leaving only the glow of the moon and stars to light the street on his walk back. It was hard to see the stars in New York because of all the lights, but Alec was walking down a quiet street with no busy buildings, and the stars shone brightly in the night sky. Finally, he reached the Institute
Alec wanted to clear his mind. His thoughts were all a clouded mess of gunk in his head, and he just needed to get them out. So he headed to the training room.
The punching bag was a great way to get all of your feelings out. Especially anger. He was punching it without any protection on his hands. Sure, every punch stung. But he didn't care. His mind was elsewhere.
He was thinking about Magnus. About everything that had happened this past month. Tomorrow was the first day of October. Hopefully, October wouldn't be as horrible as September had been. He thought of the time so long ago, before all of hell broke loose. Well, it was still hell, but it wasn't as bad as it was now. At least then he had had Magnus.
"To busy to use a healing rune?"
"I'm fine."
"No, you're not. You're hurting."
