Alec's POV
It had been a week since he and Jace had woken up in the infirmary. Ever since then, Alec had been working non-stop. The only time he stopped was to go to the bathroom, and sometimes to lead a team into battle. But most of the time, he was in his office, commanding soldiers, researching any possible weaknesses the enemy may have, over-seeing training, approving young Shadowhunters for their first mission. Normally, only the Clave could do that. But this was war. The leaders of the Shadowhunters had more important stuff to be doing.
Imogen had made it clear that she did not have the collective intelligence of a pineapple, and the Clave has not made any idiotic decisions since she became Consul.
Alec also hadn't seen Magnus or his sibling very much. He would see them occasionally to give orders, or to ask them if they could lead a mission when he was too busy. He hated putting his siblings and friends in danger like that, but he didn't have much of a choice.
He had also quickly learned that Jace was not a very good leader. His Parabatai had almost gotten a dozen soldiers killed, but luckily Luke was with them.
There were constant video meeting with the Clave, almost every day.
Maryse had been in and out of the Institute. Robert was running the one in Los Angeles, and Max was with him. Although Alec missed the young Shadowhunter, he knew it was for the best.
Someone walked into his office. "Sir?" They asked.
Alec looked up, forcing a smile when he saw the kid the older guy was escorting. He looked to be around ten years old. "Yes?"
"This is Owen Earthflaw. He turned eleven years old this morning, and has received his Angelic rune."
Alec opened a draw in the side of his desk, running his fingers along the files before pulling one out. He read over it quickly.
Owen was highly trained, top of his class, and was pre-approved by the Clave already.
"You're approved."
The older Shadowhunter nodded. "Thank you, Mr.Lightwood." Alec caught a glint of fear in his eyes. It was obvious he was Owen's older brother. They shared the same light brown curly hair, the same nose. The only difference was their eyes. Owen's were dark brown, so dark they were almost black, and the older one's were a pale shade of green.
The two left the room, leaving Alec alone once again. He plunged back into his work, writing things down, flipping through demonology textbooks, scrolling through information from the Clave on his I-pad, listening to the video of Consul Imogen Herondale speaking about the war.
He didn't know how long he had been working, but far too soon the sun was replaced by the moon.
Someone knocked. He looked up to see Magnus leaning against the door frame.
"Hey," Alec said before looking back down at the textbook.
Then there was a hand under his chin, pulling it up gently until his eyes met Magnus's.
"Alexander, not thins again." He sighed. At first, Alec didn't know what he meant. But then he continued to speak. "When is the last time you slept? Or eaten?"
Alec shrugged. "I don't know."
"Remember what happened last time? You promised you wouldn't let this happen again." He pouted.
Alec sighed. "I know, Magnus but this..." He paused. "This is war. There's no time for that right now."
"That does it." Magnus snapped his fingers, and suddenly Alec's chair wheeled itself out from behind the desk and to the cent of the room, where Magnus had made a table of food appear.
"Magnus..."
"You eat, or I force-feed you. Your choice."
"I can't..."
Magnus raised his eyebrow. He picked up a spoon, digging it into something. "You asked for it. Open up for the choo-choo train, Alexander."
Alec rolled his eyes, standing up. Magnus just flicked his wrist, and Alec was sitting again.
"You need to relax. I will sedate you. Don't make me do that, Alec."
Alec stared at him in disbelief.
"Magnus, seriously? You don't..." He was cut off by Magnus shoving the spoon into his mouth. Alec nearly choked on it, but managed to swallow.
Magnus got another spoonful of food. "Do I have to keep going?"
Alec shook his head, sighing in defeat. He picked up a bread roll, ripping a piece off. He stuck it in his mouth.
Magnus smiled. "Much better."
After eating, Alec actually felt a lot better. He hadn't even realized that he felt like crap until he didn't anymore.
Magnus magically cleaned up their mess, making the table disappear.
"Now go to sleep. It's half past one in the morning."
Alec looked up at that. "What?"
"Yeah, you got a little too caught up in your work."
"Why are still awake then?"
"Why do you think? I can't fall asleep without you. Our bed just feels so empty with only one person in it.
Alec's heart exploded when he called it 'Our bed.'
"Okay, I'll sleep."
Magnus looked surprised that he had given in so easily.
"Only to help you fall asleep."
...
Alec missed this. He missed lying down next to Magnus. He missed waking up with him every morning.
His arms and legs were entangled with Magnus', who had told him that he wasn't allowed to leave until he said otherwise. Alec had smiled, kissing the warlock on the forehead. "Wouldn't dream of it."
Now he was running his hands through Magnus's hair, who was still asleep. He had only slept for about an hour, but he honestly wasn't very tired.
Magnus was so cute when he was sleeping. He clung to Alec like he was an oversized teddy bear, and Magnus was a five-year-old mundane who was scared of the dark. It was adorable.
Eventually, he fell asleep once again, swept away into the world inside his head, where there was no war, no Jonathan, no evil Seelie Queen. One where they could be happy. Together. One where they spent every single moment of the rest of their lives with each other.
If only things were like that.
Hi! Yes, two chapters today because I am REALLY behind on this. And I just wanted to write. So yeah, I hope you enjoyed this even though it was pretty boring. Sorry for typos. I didn't read this over. Also, I was right. My brother did get a purple belt. Okay, thanks for reading, love y'all, bye.
