A/N: This chapter is like 1,200 words longer than most of the others I write so hopefully it doesn't get too boring.

Isabelle's POV

"Look," Simon said, pointing towards the gate.

They were standing on top of Gard hill. It had been at lease an hour since Jonathan had disappeared. Their job was to alert the people below when the enemy forces arrived. She wasn't sure what her brothers were planning, but hopefully it didn't involve anyone dying.

Isabelle looked at the gate to see that there was a large group of people marching towards it. There looked to be hundreds of them. There were even more shadows approaching the northern gate.

Izzy looked down at what was left of Alicante.

Below, she could make out the shapes of individual people, though she couldn't tell who they were.

She stood up. "We have to tell them."

"I'll go. I'm much quicker." And with that being said, Simon zipped away down the long path. Isabelle started running after him, her whip extending into her hand as she ran.

Magnus's POV

Caterina had arrived. She had, for the most part, healed him since he was too weak to do it himself.

"Thanks Cat," Magnus told her, wrapping his arms around the other warlock.

"That's what friends are for." Her voice dropped to whisper. "Did you ever get a chance to propose to Alec?"

Magnus smiled. "Yeah, I did. It wasn't the romantic setup I had planned, and I was only half conscious, but I asked him."

"And he said yes?"

"He said exactly what I wanted him to say, even if I didn't know until after he said it."

Simon appeared next to them, panting. "The... they're here." He breathed.

Magnus cursed.

Alec ran into the room seconds later, his hair still a wreck, but he had washed the blood off of his face and hands. He held two young children, one in each arm, and there where six more by his sides.

"Magnus." He was also out of breath, probably had run all the way here from wherever he had been. "Listen, I know you want to go out into the actual battle, but we need someone here, in the Accords Hall watching over the children. I figured you would be the best person for the job."

"But, Alexander..."

"I'll stay with him." Caterina interrupted.

Alec smiled. "Thank you, Caterina. I have to get the rest of the children. Be ready for anything."

Magnus frowned at Cat, but deep down he knew they were right. Someone needed to protect the kids.

After Cat took the two children from Alec's arms, he turned on his heel and ran out of the room, only to return a few seconds later. He held two in his arms again, but another one was riding on his back piggy-back style, and a fourth sat atop his shoulders. There was an older child walking next to him, probably about eight or nine, carrying another little girl in her arms. Alec set the kids down on a blanket.

"I'll be right back."

He continued to bring more kids in until there was about twenty-five of them.

Shouting could be heard outside. The fighting had started.

Magnus grabbed Alec's arm right as he turned around. "I love you, Alexander."
