I sat on the corner of my bed, staring at the hospital bill. I couldn't let Darry pay for this. I needed to make money somehow. I looked inside my stash that I took from my parents when I moved here. I still had a little left but not enough. The court still hasn't given me my grandpa's will yet either because technically he didn't leave it to anybody and they're trying to see who is most suitable for it.

I heard the front door open and Steve and Soda walked in arguing.

"Well we wouldn't be so on jobs if you had worked the register properly and didn't keep people waitin'!" Steve yelled.

"I wouldn't have left the register if YOU hadn't of taken off for a date with Evie and left me in charge!" Soda yelled.

I heard Steve crack open a soda and plop on the couch with a sigh.

"We need more help."

I looked at my ceiling and folded my hands.

"Thank you!" I whispered.

I ran out my door and the boys looked at me like I was a loonatic.

"Fear not, fellas! You're angel has arrived!" I said with a dramatic hair flip.

"Really?" Steve said.

"What?" I asked.

"You're gonna work with us. Aren't you afraid that the oil under your fingernails is gonna ruin your perfect manicure?" Steve asked.

"No!" I said.

"What do you even know about cars?" He asked.

I raised my eyebrow.

"I grew up on the streets since I was like 12. I learned how to hotwire cars." I said.

Soda looked at me with a very impressed smirk.

"I forgot because I haven't done it in a while, but I'm sure it'll all come back eventually." I said.

"Well, I don't know about putting you to mechanics right away, but it'll definitely be nice to have the extra help." Soda said.

"Thank you, Pepsi-cola." I said with a smile.

Steve rolled his eyes. "We'll take you with us to work tomorrow and see how you do as help and if the boss likes ya, you're hired." He said.

I clapped my hands together. "Perfect!" I said.

"Where'd everybody go?" Soda asked, taking his shoes off and his uniform.

"Johnny and Ponyboy went to the lot to meet up with some kids from another gang and I haven't seen Two or Dally yet today." I said.

"So you've been here by yourself? Poor thing. You must be go bored."

Steve snorted. "You've got a soft spot." He said.

Soda stuck his tongue out at Steve.

I giggled.
