Chapter 151: Suffer the Children

You and Clem are sitting on the couch you were on. Clem's got her head leaned on your shoulder.

You: So...how was your first date?

Clem: One of the best times of my life.

This makes you smile.

Clem: You?

You: Everything I hoped it would be.

She smiles.

Ruby: Clem! You in here?

Clem: I have to go. She says, standing up. I've got lookout duty.

You: I can come with, if you want.

She smiles at you.

Clem: Sure. I'd like that.

You stand up and you both walk out of the piano room.

You and Clem climb up the guard tower to see AJ, looking through a pair of binoculars. You lean on the railing and see walkers roaming around.

AJ: The raiders...

You and Clem look at AJ.

AJ: That guy. He's gonna be with them.

You: Abel. Yeah.

Clem: Your bad dreams. They're all about him, aren't they?

AJ looks at you and Clem.

AJ: Yeah.

He looks back through his binoculars. He stops looking through his binoculars again and looks back up at you and Clem.

AJ: Can I swear yet? I think it's time I can. If you do.

Clem: Fuck it.

AJ: Really?!

Clem: Go for it, kiddo.

You: Everyone else swears, you might as well, too. Let it rip.

AJ: I fucking really hate that fucking dickhead shitfuck.

Clem: Whoa! That's a little much, don't you think?

AJ: Well, I do.

He looks back through his binoculars.

You: Try thinking about something else. Count the monsters you see.

AJ: Same number as before. Three...four...

Clementine crosses her arms.

Clem: AJ, it's okay if Abel frightens you. You know how to control that.

AJ: There's ten monsters out there.

He lowers his binoculars.

AJ: He doesn't frighten me. But when he comes here, I call dibs. I'm the one that kills him. Okay?

You: AJ, that's not how it works.

AJ: Why not?

You sigh.

You start to remember when Clementine went missing and you had that discussion with Lee on the roof of the hospital.

You look down.

You: Because it's not humane. I wise man once told me "Killing is something you should do as a last resort, you can't just wave your gun around. Killing is a choice...and it's not always the only one."

AJ: ...Was it Lee?

You look at AJ and nod.
