chapter two ~ the one with the reconnected siblings
Heather's POVChandler and I left the coffee house in silence, neither of us knew how to start this conversation off, all we knew was that we needed to move past this confrontation and get on with our lives. The question was, how were we going to do that? In my head, I thought that this was the perfect chance for us to bond again like we did when we were children, growing up without my big brother around was hard and I hated him for a long time. He went off to college and missed everything, he missed my Prom, he missed my graduation, my first boyfriend, and not to mention every single holiday that I had to spend going back and forth between our parents on my own. But now that I was an adult, all I wanted was to leave the drama behind and move on. I wanted a relationship with my brother and needed one, now that I wasn't seeing my parents, I needed at least one family member and Chandler was the perfect option.
I took a deep breath as we wandered the streets, deciding that he wasn't going to get the ball rolling and I had to. "Look, I know that you don't want to talk to me but if we're going to be neighbours then we need to get past this awkwardness, right?"
"I agree, although I would have preferred it if we weren't neighbours."
"What would I have done? Picked up the phone and called you? I don't even have your number."
He stopped walking, frowning down at me. "Sure, you do, I sent it to you at Christmas."
"You mean, the first Christmas that you were in college for? Eight years ago?"
"Okay, maybe you don't have my number but you know my address, you knew that I was living in New York."
"How would I know that Chandler?" I questioned, folding my arms across my chest because he wasn't understanding that we've had no contact for eight years and therefore, I know nothing about the life that he lives now.
"You speak to Mom; she knows where I am-"
"I don't speak to Mom!" I interrupted, raising my voice but then lowering it when I realised that we were getting stared at by random people on the street. "I haven't spoken to her in years."
"You don't speak to Mom?" Chandler seemed confused as he used his usual hand gestures to ask me more questions. "But you were always her favourite, what happened?"
"A lot of things. The main one being that she didn't approve of Carl."
"Carl? Who the hell is Carl?"
"My boyfriend. She thought that he was too plain, too boring; she wanted me to have the kind of relationship that she writes about. She doesn't realise that that isn't realistic." I sighed, knowing that I needed to move away from the problems with my Mother and just tell him truthfully what was going on. "Look, I didn't move here on purpose, to find you or anything; but maybe this is the world telling us that we need to move on?"
