chapter seventy seven ~ the one with the blazer
Heather's POV

The double date with Melissa and Nick was weird to say the least, any time that you have to spend with two people who don't like you is going to be hard. Things just got weirder as the evening continued, I had to make up a big lie about why I told Melissa that Joey was gay and that just inflated his ego to know that I didn't want anyone else dating him. Then she tried to make out that we had been best friends ever since I started working with her which wasn't true, then to make things even worse she asked hundreds of questions about mine and Nick's relationship and each ended with her laughing about how I had been punching with a guy like him and that she suited him much better. I spent the entire evening just watching the clock and waiting for the best time to run to the other side of the city, hopefully far away from them but then I reminded myself that I lived opposite Nick; therefore, I would never get away from him.

Joey and I decided that for the next few dates, we would stay closer to home and pray that we wouldn't bump into the couple again which was going to be hard whenever we were at my apartment. So, we waited until Chandler was out with Kathy and then spent some alone time at Joey's place; ensuring that we locked the door because then none of our other friends would be able to interrupt us. What I wasn't expecting when I came home from work was that Joey would be wearing a dark blue blazer and announced that he was working with Ross at the museum because that took me by surprise, knowing that this was something that he wasn't doing because he wanted to so there must be something else going on. Everyone was in Monica and Rachel's apartment, in deep discussion about something so I pulled Joey to one side and decided to ask him what was going on.

"Nothing's going on, I just needed some spare cash and Ross helped me out."

I folded my arms across my chest. "Working in a Museum? Joe, you hate everything to do with that place so why are you working there?"

"It's stupid."

"Nothing you could possibly say could be stupid." I encouraged him, wanting him to open up more.

He sighed, leaning closer to me and lowering his voice so that no one else could hear. "I want to be able to pay for our dates. Every time I take you out, you end up paying and I don't want that to happen all the time. I want to be able to surprise you with gifts or take you to a fancy restaurant, you know?"

"Oh, Joey, you don't need to do any of that stuff. I'm happy just spending time with you, I don't care about where we eat or whether you give me gifts. All I care about is you. And it's clear that you aren't doing this because you want to, you're doing this because you think you have to."

He brushed off his suit, obviously the only part of the job that he enjoyed was wearing a blazer because he thought that it made him look fancier, but that wasn't a good choice to make; only doing a job because you like the outfit. "I do-"
