chapter twenty eight ~ the one with money issues
Heather's POVAs a group we hardly ever go out to fancy places as most nights, we end up having takeaways or we let Monica make us something in her kitchen. But when I got the phone-call from Monica that we were going to a fancy restaurant to celebrate her new job as a Head Chef, I was more than excited to come along. I needed to clear my head about my own issues as I was still worried about my rude neighbour who seemed to hate me. Ever since our first introduction, he had been cold to me in the hall and if we met each other on the stairs, he would just glare at me. I don't even know his name and yet, he seems to know everything about me; the only issue is that everything he thinks he knows about me is wrong. He thinks that he knows my whole story but that isn't my story, if anything his story perfectly described Rachel and a part of me wondered if he confused the two of us for some reason.
He was going into his apartment the same time that I was leaving, and I was glad that I had got so dressed up for this fancy meal because even he had to take a double look at me before slamming his door as usual. It wasn't the kind of conversation that I wanted to have with my neighbour because I didn't like the fact that he hated me and wanted nothing to do with me but at least there was some kind of progress; this time he actually looked at me before slamming his front door. I had tried really hard to look good whenever we went to a nice place, just in case I bumped into someone important or someone that could end up being important because if I presented myself well then, I would make a good first impression on them and there would be nothing to be ashamed of. Tonight, I was wearing a tight black dress, which lay limp on my shoulders and rested just above my knees; not too much for this meal but also not too casual.
At the table I was sat in between Joey and the currently empty chair where Chandler was going to sit once, he arrived. He was running late and no one knew why but we knew that he wouldn't miss the opportunity to eat somewhere fancy for a change. Everyone had dressed up more formally than usual and I was glad to see that I wasn't overdressed or underdressed among my friends; with my little black dress and my hair pulled up neatly so that I looked as classy as possible in this nice restaurant. Ross is the one nominated to make the speech because the rest of our friends didn't look thrilled about being here as they all ordered water to drink and didn't seem excited like the rest of us were. He taps his glass and clears his throat as the rest of us copy him and hold our glasses up. "Here is to my sister, the newly appointed Head Lunch Chef-"
"Also, in charge of purchasing." Monica interrupts, bouncing on her seat because of how excited she is about the whole thing.
"Newly appointed Head Lunch Chef also in charge of purchasing-"
"Who has her own little desk when Roland's not there."
"Uh, Lunch Chef, purchasing, her own little desk when Roland's not there. Here's to my little sister..."
