chapter forty ~ the one with the new apartment
Heather's POVDespite Chandler not loving the idea of Joey moving to an apartment on the other side of the city, the move went ahead and the two guys agreed to stay friends because this move was supposed to happen on mutual grounds. Joey wasn't moving out because he had had a massive fight with Chandler, he had moved out because his career was growing and he wanted to celebrate with his own place; something that he arguably should have done before. This change was supposed to be good for everyone because it was time that the boys learned how to live by themselves for a change instead of depending on someone else to always be around. But my brother didn't seem to like the idea of living alone and had already decided that he was going to find himself a new roommate. I thought it was a bad idea but once Chandler made his mind up about something, there was nothing anyone could do to change it.
We had all been invited around to see Joey's apartment, only Chandler and I had seen it before he moved in and our other friends hadn't even seen it yet. When I had seen the apartment, it was completely empty but now that we were coming around, Joey promised that it was completely decorated and ready for guests to see it finished. I didn't know what to expect, Joey had an unusual taste and now that he had free reigns to work on this empty apartment, anything could be on the other side of the front door. We all knew that he had taken the giant television, which meant that if things got awkward, then at least we would be able to turn it on and distract ourselves. I was just worried that he had seen his paycheque and had gone overboard with the things that he could buy for his new place, over decorating and making it feel the opposite of what a home should feel like.
"What do you guys think? Casa De Joey. I decorated it myself."
Everyone piled into the lounge and were not shocked at what he had said but still shocked at the overall feel of the room. It wasn't a surprise that Joey had decorated it himself but it was a surprise to how he had decorated it because I would have never have thought it was the same apartment, I had viewed a few days ago; empty and full of potential. Now it looked like some tacky porn-star had thrown up everywhere; there was so much animal print and weird sculptures and the paintings that he had hanging up were questionable. Nothing matched and the bright with dark colour scheme was giving me a migraine. I desperately wanted to run away and never come back but then I saw how excited Joey was about the whole thing and I stopped myself from saying what I really wanted to say.
Rachel acted surprised. "No?"
"Get out." Ross added, understanding what they were doing.
Each of us moved to a different part of the lounge, I inspected the paintings on the wall as Monica called the homeowner over to one of the bigger sculptures in the corner of the room. "Wow Joey, this is uh..."
"Art." He nodded, his hands behind his back as he showed us how proud he was of his designs.
"Art it is."
