chapter twenty four ~ the one where ross returns
Heather's POVA week had passed since Rachel found out that Ross was in love with her and she had been worried about it the whole time that he was in China. We had all had to withstand hundreds of questions and conversations that revolved around him and he wasn't even around to know that we had spent the entire week talking about him. Today, he was coming home and Rachel had gone to the airport to meet him. We were waiting anxiously for her to get back because if everything went well then, she would also confess her feelings and they could get together. But if she wasn't honest with him then we would be back to square one and everyone would be keeping secrets from each other about their feelings and no one wanted that to happen.
"Rachel?" Monica questioned when the front door was pushed open and sure enough the woman that we had all been waiting for, had sprinted into the apartment with a zebra printed band aid on her forehead.
"Airport! Airport! Ross is not alone! Julie, arm around her! Oh, cramp! Cramp!"
"Okay, I think she's trying to tell us something. Quick, get the verbs." Chandler joked, making everyone roll their eyes as we had been trying to work out what she was saying and Rachel was also sick of him as she slapped his arm.
"You! You said he liked me. You, you, you slowpokes!" Her tone lightened when she noticed Ross and an unfamiliar girl stepping into the apartment with their luggage in tow.
"That's alright Rach, we got the bags. Hi! Julie, this is my sister, Monica. This is Chandler, Phoebe, Heather and Joey. Okay, everyone, this is Julie."
"Oh." We all said in unison, realising what Rachel had been trying to tell us because she had been the first to meet Julie, Ross' new girlfriend who he had found in China. Realising that we had just been staring for ages, we knew that we needed to seem more approachable and broke into greetings so that Julie wasn't uncomfortable around us. "Hi!"
"Hi, but I'm not here. I'll make a much better first impression tomorrow when I don't have twenty hours of cab and plane on me."
"And bus." Ross added, making her sigh as she recalled what had happened on the bus.
"Oh my God..."
Julie didn't seem that bad, she looked nice and she didn't seem to be psychotic which at this point wouldn't surprise me because these guys can't seem to pick up any nice person to date. She didn't have an annoying voice like Janice, she could speak English which wasn't like Paolo and she seemed to be really friendly, unlike Carl, who I still hated. Julie seemed like a really nice woman which confused me even more because how did she end up with Ross. When they went on that trip to China, they must have not seen anyone else and spent the entire week together with fossils. That's the only way that he would have managed to date someone as perfect as Julie. She seemed relatable and I liked that, maybe she would be the newest member of the group as Ross' new girlfriend and that would be great for me because that would mean that I wasn't the newest member anymore and maybe I would fit in better. Either way, Julie seemed nice and I wasn't going to hate her just because Rachel wanted us to; it was obvious that she wasn't the new girl's biggest fan by the way she was glaring at the new couple from across the room.
