chapter sixty one ~ the one with the ski trip
Heather's POVRoss and Rachel had officially broken up and all of our fears came to light because now that our favourite couple were no longer together, it meant that we couldn't all hang out together like we used to. Basically, our friendship circle was ruined because we had to keep making plans with only one of them and for some reason, they always had plans for the same days. It was really tough having to keep deciding between them because they were both our friends, and we knew that sooner or later things were going to get worse. We were all just silently hoping that they would work through their issues and at least try to remain civil for the rest of us so that things wouldn't be as awkward anymore. The best thing that could possibly happen is if they just get back together but I couldn't see that happening after what Ross had done; it would take a long time for Rachel to forgive him and I wouldn't blame her if she never did.
This week we were spending time with Rachel because she invited all of us to go to her cousin's cabin and we had all been really excited about attending. The worst part was that we had to reject Ross' offer to hang out but, in all honesty, Rachel's trip did sound more interesting than whatever Ross had planned for us. Plus, I had never been skiing before and this was my first time; Joey had promised to help teach me the basics because he was apparently a pro, and Chandler had promised to teach me the actual basics once Joey made a fool of himself. Phoebe had agreed to take us all in her Grandmother's cab which was very squished with everyone inside; she drove with Rachel in the passenger seat. Then Chandler, Monica, Joey and I were in the back; I had been so tired during the ride that I fell asleep, using Joey's shoulder as a headrest because he was more comfortable than Monica who wouldn't stop moving.
After a while of driving, everyone wanted to have a break and Phoebe pulled into a deserted pitch stop and let us all get out. Monica and I rushed to the bathroom because we had been desperate ever since Joey mentioned needing the bathroom, whereas the others stayed outside. Chandler was getting on everyone's nerves as he wanted to smoke but no one else liked the smell of it or the idea of it; and hated whenever he smoked. Just as I was washing my hands, I heard shouting from outside and rushed into the snow to find out what had happened. As if luck was not on our side, Rachel had managed to lock the keys inside the car and now we were stuck here until someone got the car open. We were all worried about being stuck in the middle of nowhere but my brother was more worried about the fact that his lighter was in the cab and he had nothing to light his cigarettes with.
"Damn, the tailpipe's not hot enough to light this."
"That's really what you're worried about right now?" I frowned, hitting his shoulder because he was being really stupid in the face of a problem.
"Relax, I can get this open." Joey said calmly. "Anybody got a coat hanger?"
"I do! Oh, no, wait a minute. I took it out of my shirt when I put it on this morning."
