chapter ninety eight ~ the one with yemen
Heather's POV

We all knew that Ross wasn't in a great place right now. He had just finalised his divorce to Emily and things weren't looking great for him. He was suffering with bad rage and because of that, his career was on hold until he could control himself and we all felt awful for him. But what none of us were expecting, was for him to go out one night and then completely disappear. Sure, this was something that most people did but not Ross, and Monica was freaking out in the guys' apartment. We had been to every place that we could think of, trying to find him but it was no use; it was like he had dropped off the side of the planet and would never return. I was already at the guys' apartment because I had stayed the night with Joey but the others had been the ones to tell us that Ross was missing and we'd agreed to help the rescue mission.

Currently, we were trying to calm Monica down because she wasn't the best under pressure and wasn't handling this news greatly. Phoebe and Rachel were huddled on one of the armchairs, both of them worrying about where Ross was but not being as vocal as his sister, and I was stood in the kitchen, my arms around Joey's waist as he tucked me into his side and made coffee for everyone. The next step was going to the cops because they would know how to track down a missing person but first, we were regrouping and getting our energy back up with some coffee. None of us were thinking straight because in the five years that I had lived in this city, we had never had a missing person in our friendship group. I guess there's a first time for everything.

"I'm telling you, something's wrong." Monica said as she paced around the lounge. "My brother does not stay out all night."

"Maybe we should check the trash chute." Joey offered, which made everyone frown because that wasn't the kind of place that we expected Ross to be.

Rachel was the one to address the situation, because I didn't have the energy to argue with my boyfriend about this. "Ross couldn't fit down the trash chute."

"That's right, he almost could." Joey explained, looking down so that I could back him up but I just pretended that there was something really interesting about my coffee instead of helping him with his trash chute theory. "Which is exactly how I got stuck there."

"Hey!" Monica shouted which scare everyone but then we understood why she was shouting because the door had opened and Ross sauntered into the apartment. "Where the hell have you been?"

He shrugged, not seeming to understand what the big deal was. "Just, you know, out."

"Oh, out? I don't know why we didn't think to check there."

I squashed myself closer to Joey, to get his body warmth as the apartment was freezing and I was only wearing shorts with one of his jerseys. "We were worried about you."

"What were you doing?" Phoebe questioned, and it almost made me laugh because I felt like we were interrogating him as a parent would but I stopped when I remembered how serious this situation was.
