chapter one hundred and three ~ the one with more lies
Heather's POVI couldn't help but play the scene over and over in my mind, thinking about why Joey had been so set on having Monica run lines with him; we always did it together. Not only had that been weird but the way that Chandler was acting around me was also starting to freak me out, he would just sit and stare at me whilst we were all hanging out with our friends and he had even stopped making sarcastic comments towards me. No one else was picking up on the strange behaviour of our friends, but it was all I could think about and it was seriously freaking me out. However, our other friends seemed to have other things on their minds as their lives continued and they couldn't think about how our friends were acting all the time. Rachel had been to a job interview for Ralph Lauren and everyone was very excited to hear about how it had gone, if it went well and she got the job then everyone was counting on her to get them expensive gifts on every holiday imaginable.
Chandler, Joey and I were sat around the table in Monica and Rachel's apartment, waiting for Rachel to come back from the interview so that we could know whether to expect some branded items for Christmas next year. It was eating me alive, not knowing what was going on between some of my friends because we were usually very open with each other; well, apart from when everyone was having secret relationships and refused to tell anyone. But usually, we always tell each other everything. If I was more vocal with my opinion then I would have asked them right now what was going on, but I was too awkward and decided that if they were really hiding something then they would probably tell me soon enough. Maybe they were planning a surprise party for me or something? What would we be celebrating though because my birthday was last month?
"Hey, how did the interview go?" Chandler asked as Rachel closed the door behind her and sighed loudly, obviously it didn't go to plan.
"Oh, horrible! I did the stupidest, most embarrassing thing."
Joey looked excited with this piece of news and tried to guess what she had done. "Did you tell the guy you wanted to have sex with his wife and then fall right out of your chair?"
"No."
I rolled my eyes, knowing that this could drag on forever and interrupted Joey before he could guess again, his mouth closing frustrated that I had stopped him. "So, what happened?"
"Oh, it was horrible. And the interview part went so well. I even made him laugh, he said something about a boat and I was like, 'yeah, if you've got enough life jackets.' Trust me, it was actually very funny." She explained when none of us laughed at her joke because to be honest, it didn't make any sense to us. "Anyway, we were saying goodbye and..."
"What happened?" Joey pushed, desperate to just know what had happened instead of all of these pauses happening where he was expecting to fill in the blanks. If he had known this was what we had to do to hear the story then he wouldn't have bothered to listen, but now he was too invested to stop listening.
