chapter one hundred ~ the one with monica & chandler
Heather's POVAfter a few more weeks of Ross living with the guys, we all agreed that it was time for him to move on and the best way to do that, was for me to help find him an apartment of his own. Luckily for me, an apartment became vacant in my building, weirdly it had been previously owned by Ugly Naked Guy but when I told Ross, he didn't seem put off by the idea. In fact, that made him want the apartment more because if he was in his lounge, he would be able to clearly see Monica and Rachel's apartment on the other side of the street; and he thought that was brilliant. So, I made a viewing appointment and got the keys to show Ross around the place. It was roughly the same size as my apartment and he was only a floor lower than mine which meant that we weren't too close or too far apart; it was the right distance.
I planned to give Ross a private viewing so that he could come to a decision without our friends around to force him into buying the place because I knew that if Chandler or Joey were present then they would force him into buying it, no mater what it actually looked like. It was the same case a few weeks ago when they almost forced him to buy the tiny apartment with a kitchen/bathroom. I wasn't going to let him make the same mistake twice and forced the guys into promising that they wouldn't meddle with the deal; on top of that, Ross promised that if I helped find him an apartment, he would send in a positive review to my company and then maybe they would let me handle my own cases because I had been working there a whole year and Melissa was still helping me with really trivial things. I felt that I was ready for my own project but she was certain that there were still important things that she needed to teach me.
Unfortunately, the private tour that I was giving to Ross came to a halt when Phoebe and Rachel knocked on the door, eager to help their friend choose his new home and I couldn't turn them away as they practically launched themselves into the room. Ross seemed happy enough to let them in, thinking that they were really excited about him buying a new place but I knew that they were just being nosy and wanted to see what kind of place Ugly Naked Guy had lived in and that they weren't that bothered about where Ross ended up living. I couldn't blame them; it was interesting to find out what kind of place that guy had lived in and whether it was hygienic or not. Surprisingly it was cleaner than I had thought but then again, it was almost empty because most of his belongings had been moved out.
"Oh my God, I love this apartment." Ross admitted, and I was glad that he really liked the place because otherwise Joey and Chandler would be on my heels to find another place for Ross to move into. "Isn't it perfect? I can't believe I never realised how great it is."
Rachel nodded, knowing exactly why none of them had noticed the apartment before. "Well, that it because your eye immediately goes to the big naked man."
"It's amazing. You'd better hurry up and fill out an application or I'm going to beat you to it." Phoebe threatens to leave the room, and when Ross realised that she wasn't joking, that she was serious, he leaves the apartment to fill an application out. I knew that I was going to have to go and help him but I couldn't leave the girls in the apartment by themselves, I was given the keys and therefore, I had to make sure that nothing went wrong. And because of that, I wasn't leaving Rachel and Phoebe alone in the place, they had rotten luck and would probably end up breaking something which I would have to pay for. "Well, I never thought I'd say this but I'm going to go use Ugly Naked Guy's bathroom." Rachel says, pointing over her shoulder and heading into one of the rooms.
Phoebe wanders over to the window, pointing out that she could see the other apartment from where she was standing and I didn't think anything of it. "Oh look, there's Monica and Chandler. Hey! Hey, you guys!" She waves and shouts as loudly as she could but they didn't notice her, coming up next to her, I tried to see if I could see them and then I saw more of what I had wanted to see. Instead of just seeing my brother and my friend in the window, I saw my brother undressing my friend and I could never get that image out of my mind. "Ahh! Ahh! Chandler and Monica! Chandler and Monica!"
"Oh my God!" I tried covering my eyes but I knew that Phoebe didn't know about their relationship yet and I was panicking about what to do.
"Ahh! Chandler and Monica!"
The shouting seemed to have caught Rachel's attention and she came back from the bathroom and looked out of the window to see what we were stressing about. "Oh my God!"
"Oh, my eyes!" Phoebe reached up to cover her eyes, still screaming. "My eyes!"
I realised that we needed to calm her down otherwise Ross would hear and we didn't need him finding out about Monica and Chandler right now. "Phoebe, it's okay!"
"No, they're doing it!"
"I know!" Rachel grabbed her shoulders and shook her firmly. "We know!"
"You know?"
I nodded at my friend before Rachel continued explaining. "Yes, we know and Joey knows, but Ross doesn't know so you have to stop screaming!"
"Hey, what's going on?" Ross asked as he stepped back into the apartment and we all broke away from each other in surprise.
Ross had been struggling with his rage, and it had caused him to temporarily lose his job, even if he wouldn't admit that that was what happened. Now that he was on medication and we were all helping him with his emotions, he seemed to be getting back on track but finding this out would break him. He would never forgive the couple for the secret that they were keeping and he would never forgive us because we had known and not told him. Now that Phoebe had seen them, Ross was the only person who didn't know and he was the one person that couldn't find out; unless we all wanted to be murdered. He couldn't know what was going on and that was when we made the decision to do whatever we could to make sure that he didn't find out what was happening in the apartment opposite. Rachel jumped and squealed with surprise. "Oh! Hi! Oh!"
Ross seemed confused and was facing the window as he asked. "What?"
"Nothing!" Rachel turns him around so that he's not facing where Monica and Chandler are. "Oh God, we're just so excited that you might get this apartment!"
"Actually, it looks really good."
He turns to face Phoebe, who runs to Rachel's side so that he doesn't face the window and I quickly join them to avoid any mistakes. "Oh my God!" We started jumping up and down and squealing, hoping that he would believe how excited we were about the apartment. "Get in here!" Ross seemed hesitant at first but then jumped over to us, enjoying the carefree moment.
