chapter seventy four ~ the one with the box
Joey's POVThanksgiving. It was that fun holiday once again and the friends were excited to spend the evening together. Of course, this kind of holiday was never normal and it seemed that this year was no different; something always seemed to go wrong when the group of friends organised something together. Everyone remembered what had happened the first year, when they had been locked out of the apartment and the food had all been burnt, then last year was when the big football game had been played. No food was harmed on that holiday but egos were after Monica and Ross stayed out on the field all night because neither of them would let go of the ball. This year, things weren't much different as Joey and Chandler were not on speaking terms. Chandler had kissed Kathy, who was Joey's girlfriend and after the kiss, Kathy had broken up with Joey so that she could start dating Chandler. This caused a lot of grief between the best friends, understandably and the grief hadn't been sorted out in time for Thanksgiving.
Chandler wanted to prove his loyalty to his best friend and that was why he had been forced into a wooden box instead of spending the holiday with the rest of his friends like a normal person would. The worst part was that they were expecting a guest that night and didn't know how he was going to cope when learning that one of the other guests had been forced into a wooden box with only one air hole. Monica wasn't feeling her best as she had squirted ice into her eye and was stuck wearing an eyepatch for the next few weeks but at least she had managed to invite the only guest over to the house. The only issue was that this guest was Tim Burke, Richard's son. She didn't seem to think that it was a problem but the rest of her friends had plenty to say on the matter.
Joey was nervous about the whole evening as he hadn't spent time with a certain someone since the night that they spent eating pizza and talking about anything that they could think of. He didn't want to admit that his crush was growing bigger but he couldn't help thinking that she was literally perfect. "Hey, so, uh, is Heather here?"
"She's just getting changed in the bedroom." Phoebe told him as she helped lay the table. "Why?"
"No reason, just want to make sure that everyone's here for Thanksgiving."
Heather had made sure to pick the perfect outfit to wear tonight, because if there was a chance that Nick would see her then she wanted to look her best. Last year she had spent the entire day with him and had been so in love that she hadn't seen all of his flaws but now that she was single and ready to move on, she wanted to revenge body him and look her best. When she went back to her apartment that night, she wanted him to regret everything that he had said to her and be upset that he had let her go. She wasn't wearing this tight sparkly grey dress to win him back because that was something that she had never thought about doing; this dress was just to remind him of what he had missed out on. Of course, she had no idea about Joey's small crush on her that developed a little bit more when she stepped out of the bedroom and didn't even notice when he excused himself to the bathroom. She was too wrapped up in her own thoughts that she didn't even hear the beginning of the conversation but could work out that it was about Tim coming over for dinner.
