chapter thirty four ~ the one with the wedding
Joey's POVLife had changed dramatically for everyone over the last couple of weeks and things were finally looking up for the group of friends who were now adjusting to life in New York better than any of them had expected. Heather was still working on her Real Estate licence and if everything went to plan, she would be getting it very soon because she had been working tirelessly to make sure that she was the best of the best. Not only was her career looking brighter, but her personal life was changing too because she was spending more time with the now-friendly neighbour Nick. Instead of being the rude annoying man that lived across the hall, he was becoming her friend and because of his handsome face and his intelligent personality, Heather couldn't help but hope that there was something else blossoming between them.
For Joey, his career had finally taken off and now he was starring in the show called 'Days of our Lives', he played the neurosurgeon Dr Drake Ramoray and was enjoying his new status in this famous soap opera. Now that he had his career back on track, he wanted to thank Heather for her words of wisdom about not giving up on his dream but so far, he hadn't found the right time to say anything. Which was why, when Ross needed someone to take an invitation to Carol and Susan's wedding to her apartment, he volunteered himself. Not only would he have the chance to talk to her about his whole acting thing but he was also going to shoot his shot and ask her to be his date there. At least then, he wouldn't have to spend the whole day with Chandler and wouldn't have to worry about paying for some random date that he would never see again.
He reached up and knocked on the front door, waiting for a few moments before it opened slightly and revealed a very happy looking Heather through the crack. "Hi Joey, what are you doing here?"
"I was just wondering if you were doing anything this weekend?"
"Actually, I'm going to Carol and Susan's wedding, did Ross give you an invite?" She replied, feeling slightly awkward that she already had plans and just hoped that he was also invited otherwise this whole thing would turn more awkward for both of them.
Joey nodded, quickly trying to ignore the awkwardness that was between them as he shoved the invite into his back pocket before she could see it. "Yeah, that's what I was coming over to give you; he told me to give you one because he hadn't seen you."
"Oh, well, Carol and Susan mailed one to me the other day."
"They did? I didn't realise that you were that close?"
"I babysit Ben for them sometimes and Susan helps me with some of my reading material." She explained, before adding why she had been keeping the whole thing a secret from the others. "I didn't tell Ross because I knew he would freak out, if he knew that I was friends with his ex-wife and her partner."
"So, you're going to the wedding? Do you have anyone to go with?"
"Joey!" A deep voice exclaimed as the front door was opened fully and revealed the rude neighbour that Joey recognised, but didn't understand why he was stood next to Heather and why they both looked so comfortable around each other when he was sure that they hated each other. "Hey, we were just watching you on TV."
