chapter thirty nine ~ the one with the apology
Joey's POV

Ever since the day that Heather had stormed out of the apartment, she had had no contact from Joey whatsoever. She didn't want to talk to him because of what he had said in front of all of their friends, calling her out as if she was a child and she didn't know any better. She hated it. She was a grown woman and was able to make her own decisions; if his opinion had been the same as her other friends then maybe she would have considered that he was right but because the others had had nothing but praise for her moving on with her life, she thought that she was doing the right thing. When Joey had snapped at her, it was as if he thought that she wasn't ready to move on and that she should still be upset about her relationship with Carl; he also spoke as if no matter who she would be with, it would always end in the same heartbreak and that wasn't a nice thing to say.

On the other hand, Joey was kicking himself for what he had done. When he had said those things, he had only meant it in the nicest way possible, he didn't think that she should be getting into a serious relationship so soon after what had happened with Carl. Sure, it had been several months, almost a year since they had broken up but he thought that she should start going on dates slowly with other people and then when she was really ready, she could date someone. Instead, she had skipped the several dates and had started a serious relationship with the first guy that showed an interest in her and he didn't think it was right. What was even worse was that Nick hadn't been the nicest person and didn't give any of them the best first impression that he could. They all knew Nick as the rude neighbour who spread rumours about their friend, and now, she was dating him as if none of that had ever happened.

He just wanted the best for his friends and believed that Nick wasn't the best option that Heather had when it came to a new boyfriend. But he realised that he shouldn't have voiced his concerns in the way that he did because it came off in a bad way and he said those things in front of everyone, embarrassing himself with his words and her with everything that she had said about her. So, he knew that it was his responsibility to fix everything and that if she didn't forgive him straight away then it was his job to work through this and get them back to their normal friendship status. This was why, he headed over to her apartment hoping that he could apologise for everything and that they could just move on from this argument; the two had never argued before and he didn't like it, he wanted them to be friends again, even if that meant watching his friend make the biggest mistake of her life.

Taking a deep breath, he knocked on the door and waited until it opened to start talking, keeping his view on the ground because he didn't want to look her in the eyes. "I know you don't want to see me but I really wanted to apologise for everything that I said the other day. You're right, you can make your own choices and you obviously shouldn't take dating advice from someone who's never had a serious girlfriend before. But you're my friend and I don't want to lose this friendship just because I said something stupid, because if you didn't notice, I say stupid things a lot."
