chapter twenty one ~ the one with the beeper
Heather's POV

Ever since Marcel had gone to his new home, things had quietened down with all of us but not for long. Carol was heavily pregnant and could give birth at any time, which was both exciting and nerve-racking because for Ross, these were his last days before he became a Father. Something that none of us felt ready for, and yet, it was about to happen. I still couldn't believe that one of us was going to be responsible enough to have their own child, I didn't feel ready to have children because sometimes it felt as though I still was one. But I was looking forward to babysitting, it was good practise for when I wanted children and the best thing about babysitting is that you get to play, cuddle and talk to the baby but as soon as the bad stuff starts happening, you hand them straight back to their parents.

So, everyone was preparing for the birth of Ross' son but they were also getting on with their own lives and making sure that they were ready for whatever could be coming their way. I was more than excited about one of my friends having a baby, but there was something else that I was excited about and had been keeping secret from the others for a couple of days. Not only did I have that surprise, but my house hunt was coming to an end because I had found an apartment that I liked and was just waiting for the owners to get back to me so that I could find out when I could move in. It was the perfect size for me, wasn't too expensive and the best part was that it was opposite the building that my friends were living in. All I had to do was cross the street and I was right where they were, I was so excited to show them the apartment once I had decorated and invite them over for dinners. Things that I had wanted to do when living with Carl but had never had the confidence to do, I could now do and I was very excited.

But my friends knew about the apartment and had enjoyed listening to me talk endlessly about how excited I was to move in. I already had several ideas of what I was going to do with the space and they all agreed to help me move things in once I had conformation that I could move in. The news that I was about to share with them was something that I hadn't told anyone and had kept secret for a few weeks now, but I was ready to share and couldn't wait for their reactions. Each of them had a job, a dream that they wanted to achieve but none of them understood what I wanted to do. Now, I finally had a plan and a goal to aspire to, weirdly it was all thanks to Carl, because he was the reason that I wanted to do something with my life. And this was the first step.

"You look happier than usual; did you get a date from the owner?" Chandler asked as I skipped into the coffee house.

"No, I'm still waiting to hear from them."

Joey positioned himself on the couch so that he could see me. "So, why are you so excited?"

I held up a letter that I had stuffed into my back pocket. "Because I'm getting my Real Estate license!"

All of my friends jumped out of their seats and began congratulating me, hugging me and kissing my cheeks because they knew that this was a big deal for me. This was the first step for me and my new dream, my dream of becoming a successful business woman in this big city. Now that I had the go-ahead to train for my license, I needed to knuckle down and work hard. Then, once I had my license, I could join a company and then my plan would really start because I would work harder than anyone else to ensure that I was the best seller on the team. Eventually leaving and starting my own company that would become the most successful in the whole of the country.
