chapter one hundred and ten ~ the one with charles bing
Heather's POVBeing in Las Vegas felt so surreal, and being here with my friends made things more exciting; even though Phoebe had been threatened to be kicked out if she kept messing with people and the slot machines. Chandler and Monica hadn't made up yet, which kind of put a damper on the whole trip but I needed to talk to my brother because there was someone in the city that I wanted to talk to. Our dad, he worked here and I hadn't seen him in person for years, so, this could be a chance to spend time with him and introduce him to Joey before the madness of planning a wedding kicked in. I wanted him to be involved with the big day, but was worried that because he hadn't met Joey, that he wouldn't come or if he did come, then he wouldn't be the nicest about the whole ordeal. We hadn't planned anything much to do with the wedding because we weren't planning to have it anytime soon but I knew that I wanted both of my parents there, because it wouldn't be the same without any of my family there.
Chandler had bombarded himself in his hotel room and when I knocked on the door, I was kind of worried about what I could find on the other side. It wasn't the best time to bring up our Dad because I knew that he had a more restrained relationship with him than I did, but I wanted to make sure that he was okay with me finding Charles before I went ahead and did it. If Chandler didn't want me to track down our Dad, then I wouldn't but there would always be a part of me that would wonder what would have happened if I did. I didn't want to feel like our family weren't really a family, that's how I had felt growing up but now that we were all adults, I wanted us to act that way too and we needed to put our differences behind us. Carefully, I twisted the doorhandle and made my way into the hotel room that Chandler was in. "Hey Chandler."
He was lying on the bed with his back against the headboard, maybe he had been in deep thought before I came in but now, I had interrupted it. "If you're here to convince me to stay then don't bother. This was the worst night of my life and I'm going home."
"No, actually, I wanted to talk to you about something else." I explained, closing the door behind me so that we wouldn't get interrupted by anything.
"Something other than my dying relationship with Monica?"
Taking a deep breath, I decided to just go for it and face whatever consequences would be heading my way. "I wanted to talk to you about dad."
"Oh, great. Another dying relationship that I have, no wait, not dying, already dead."
"He works in Las Vegas, as you know-"
"I've been trying to get that image out of my mind for the last ten years, so, thank you for reminding me." Chandler interrupted, his arms folding over his chest as he obviously wasn't happy with this conversation and the fact that I was talking about dad.
"I wanted to reach out to him. I asked him to attend my engagement party but he didn't come. And whilst we're here, I thought it would be nice for him to meet Joey. But I won't do anything if you're not comfortable with it."
