chapter twenty seven ~ the one with the third nipple
Heather's POVEveryone has their secrets, even people who think they know everything about each other, don't. Some people share their secrets with other people, but others decide to keep things hidden. All that we know, is that no matter how hard you try and keep a secret, someone ends up spilling it and then everyone knows. That was something that we were working out right now, secrets, and how something innocent can turn into a lot of trouble. I have my own secrets, but they're not serious ones, my friends know more about me than what I've told my own parents. The secrets that I keep are harmless ones and ones that if people found out, wouldn't even be that big of a deal but the secrets that some of my friends were keeping were less innocent than mine. They were big ones and the juicer secrets were always better than the harmless ones.
The secrets came out after Phoebe forgot to tell everyone something that would be classed as massive, she was married and she had never told anyone because she didn't think that it was a big deal. Arguably, it was a huge deal and that's what everyone else thought. I was sat at the table with Phoebe and Ross as everyone was discussing the big secret that she had hidden from everyone, for several years and we were all shocked at how none of us knew about this. Rachel was washing up some dishes by the sink and Chandler and Monica were leaning on the back of the couch so that they could talk to Phoebe about her secrets.
"This is unbelievable, how can you be married?" Joey asked as he moved over to the table, taking the seat next to mine.
"Well, I'm not really married." She shrugged, not understanding why it was such a big deal. "He was just a friend, and he's gay, he was from Canada and he just needed a green card."
Monica was more shocked than anyone else and more upset that she wasn't told this information. "I can't believe you married Duncan. How could you not tell me? We lived together, we told each other everything."
"I'm sorry Monica, but I knew if I told you, you'd get really judgemental and you would not approve."
"Of course, I wouldn't approve. I mean, you were totally in love with this guy who was gay. What the hell were you thinking?"
"See, and you thought she'd be judgemental." Ross sighed, expecting his sister to have one of these outbursts as usual.
Phoebe raised her hands up in surrender as the rest of us watched to see what would happen next. "Okay, I wasn't in love with him, I was just helping out a friend."
Being married to someone is a big deal but I could also see why Phoebe didn't see it as a big deal. She claimed that she only married this guy because he needed a green card and it was her friend. If one of my friends needed something then I would do whatever I could to help them out; I'm not sure how far I would go to help them but if she was really close to this Duncan guy, then it makes sense for him to help him in that way. However, Monica was claiming that Phoebe was in love with this guy and if that was true then marrying him as a friendly gesture probably wasn't the best thing to do. If I had been giving advice then it would have definitely been along the lines of, don't get married to your gay friend even if you're in love with him.
