chapter twenty five ~ the one with the breastmilk
Heather's POV

Only a few months had passed since the birth of Ben but he had already grown so big and every time I saw him, it made me feel older. It was still hard to believe that one of us had a baby, even though the situation was complicated, somehow Ross was making it work and had taken to Fatherhood better than any of us had expected. We all bet on how hard he would find it and how he would never get into any kind of routine with Susan around, as he hated the woman, but somehow, they were doing well. Today the two women had brought Ben over to the apartment so that the baby could spend some time with his Father and luckily, we were all around to witness the bonding as we were all gathered in Monica's apartment.

Susan and Carol were sat on the couch, holding Ben on their lap so that he could see Ross, who was making stupid voices come out of a teddy bear that we had bought for the baby. I was sat next to my brother on the other end of the couch, as Rachel and Joey watched from the armchair. Monica had popped over to the cabinet because she had something that she wanted to show the new parents and apparently it couldn't wait. Everyone knew that when she was in this kind of state, that you couldn't interfere, so we were just letting her carry on showing whatever weird and wonderful gift that she had bought for the baby.

"Okay, these were unbelievably expensive and I know he's going to grow out of them in, like, twenty minutes, but I couldn't resist!" She holds up a tiny pair of sneakers and everyone awes, thinking that the shoes are the cutest things in the world.

"Oh, look at these! Hey Ben, just do it." Phoebe picks up the shoes and holds them so that the baby could see his gift, only Ben didn't seem to like them because he started crying loudly. "Okay, was that too much pressure for him?"

"Wow, is he hungry already?"

Carol shrugged at her partner, shifting in her seat and preparing herself so that she could breastfeed the baby. "I guess so."

"You know its..." Chandler began trailing off once he realised what was going on right next to him and quickly stood up, a shocked expression on his face. "Something funny about sneakers. I'll be right back."

"I got to get one too." Joey added, jumping up and running after my brother.

Ross gets the hint from us that he needs to go and talk to his friends because we were all comfortable with Carol breastfeeding in front of us, it was a natural thing for a mother to feed her baby but obviously the guys that we were friends with, were too immature to see it that way. All they saw was a woman getting her breast out and they panicked, leaving the room before they did something wrong. Whilst Ross went to knock some sense into them, the girls moved so that we could watch Ben closely. It was strange, we had never been this interested in them before but now that he was here and he was adorable; we wanted to watch him. As friends we had never discussed what we wanted when we were ready for a family, but I knew that each of my friends wanted at least one baby that they could call their own. It was obvious from the way that they were staring intently at Carol that they wanted this one day; I was the same, a part of me had wanted it with Carl but now that that boat had sailed far, far away, I wondered who it would be. All I knew was that I wanted it, but I didn't want to rush anything right now.
