chapter thirty seven ~ the one with the lobster
Heather's POV

My relationship with Nick was slowly getting more serious and for some reason, I wasn't worried about it. After everything that happened with Carl, it was refreshing to spend time with someone new and not be worried about anything that he was possibly doing. Nick was a different person to Carl and it felt as though I was enjoying his company more than I had been with my ex-fiancé which surprised me. Whenever I had thought about going back into dating after my failed engagement, I was worried that I would jump back in to things too soon or would get really serious with someone too fast and then end up in the same place again, heartbroken. But with Nick things felt different, we were taking everything slow but now that we had been together for a few weeks, we were both moving closer to the idea of taking the step into a serious relationship.

Right now, all we had done was go on a few dates and spent loads of time at our apartments because we lived across the hall from each other, so spending time together wasn't too hard. Of course, we were trying to make sure that we didn't spend too much time together, which was why I was glad that he had a time-consuming job and I was busy with my license. On top of keeping busy, this relationship had been the slowest that I had ever been in because we still hadn't even kissed yet. When I started dating Carl, we kissed on our first date but with Nick, things felt different and it felt like more of an adult relationship. Therefore, neither of us were rushing into anything and I was glad that he was being so mature with everything.

Chandler called me to invite me over to Monica's apartment because her parents had dropped off some of her belongings and she needed help to go through them. I had no other plans and I agreed to come over to help. He sounded surprised that I wasn't spending time with Nick because he had invited me to other things over the last few days but I had rejected because I was enjoying time with my newest friend, who still hadn't kissed me. A part of me wondered if he didn't want to step forward into a serious relationship and his way of telling me, was by not kissing me. But then again, we had gotten so close and if he was having any second thoughts then he would be comfortable telling me about them.

"There you are, come on, there's tons of boxes to go through." Monica pushed me towards the couch where there were several brown boxes lined up as she went back to her conversation with Ross in the kitchen.

"Heather, nice of you to join us. Are you here alone or did you bring Nick, because you seem to come as a package deal these days?" Joey mumbled, as he opened one of the boxes on the coffee table and began sifting through the contents.

"Nick's in work, so I'm here alone. You don't seem happy about me being here."

Chandler scoffed. "Of course, we're happy that you're here, one more person to help us sort through this crap. One more person for Monica to shout at when she claims that we're sorting things wrong."

I tried to ignore the vibe that Joey was sending to me, obviously not happy with me for some reason and it was making me angry because I didn't know what I had done to upset him. But then Phoebe changed the conversation when she pulled out a large purple and blue coloured outfit from one of the boxes; holding it as high as she could so that everyone could see it. "Mon, what is this?"
