chapter sixty nine ~ the one with the reincarnation
Heather's POV

Going back to work after having such a nice break was refreshing, but it also reminded me that I had to work with Melissa once again; who wasn't the easiest person to work with. When I first started, she had been horrible to me because she thought that I was taking all of the attention in the office off her but the truth was, I wasn't doing anything on purpose and couldn't care what the other employees were thinking. Since I had taken her to see one of Joey's plays, she had been a lot nicer and I was thankful for that. However, she was only being nice to me because she wanted to sleep with Joey; the first time that she had asked me, I had gotten so jealous over the idea that I lied and told her that he was gay. I didn't think that she would believe me, but then her facial expression changed and she seemed to find it believable, agreeing that someone that good looking couldn't be straight and she never asked about him again.

This week, Mr George had been so impressed with how well I had settled into the office, with average help from Melissa that he gave me my first project. I was so excited to get stuck into something that may remotely have something to do with Real Estate, that I got the pages printed straight away and began researching as much as possible about this particular place. Then I was brought out of my excited bubble when Melissa informed me that due to it being my first project, she had to oversee everything and by that, she meant that she was basically doing everything and I was once again her assistant, running to get her coffees whenever she clicked her fingers. I tried to stay positive, knowing that she was good at her job and I was learning from a professional but it wasn't really learning when I was always in the break room, making her coffee.

Then, at the end of the shift Melissa told me that she was coming to my apartment that evening to continue with the project. Something about, it would be easier to work through the evening and get the job done instead of coming back in tomorrow and starting all over again. She once again rejected the idea of working at her place and insisted that she came to my apartment because she knew where I lived; secretly I knew that the only reason she wanted to come to my apartment was because there was a chance that she would bump into Joey as he always seemed to be there. What she didn't know was that Joey and I hadn't been hanging out since the Beach House and there was still this awkward tension around us whenever we hung out with the rest of our friends.

That night when I got home from work, I spent the next hour making sure that everything was clean and looked perfect because I didn't want to give Melissa another chance to make fun of me, especially not in my own home. As I was cleaning up, I was shocked at how much crap there was lying around the house and even more shocked that most of the crap wasn't mine. I hadn't realised how much my friends had left in my apartment and how I never noticed all of it lying around, but at least this gave me a chance to get rid of everything and at some point, I could return their belongings to them. At exactly six o'clock, I heard a woman's voice in the hall outside my apartment and I knew that Melissa had arrived but what surprised me was that a male voice replied to her; instantly I thought that it must be one of my friends, maybe Joey had come over to clear the air? When I opened the front door, however, I was greeted by something that I had never expected.
