lxxiii. windows and weekends
It was snowing once again. Sometimes it felt like it was always snowing here in Odiosis. Luckily, it was the weekend. Everyone was here: Dad, Shonali, Brooklyn, Noah, and I. Dad and Shonali were still asleep, but all of us kids were awake. I could hear Noah and Brooklyn playing in the living room. I didn't really want to play though, so I stayed in my room and read a book.
Then I heard a scream.
I ran out to the living room. I knew I had to be the responsible one here. Noah was playing Super Mario Galaxy again and Brooklyn was screaming and crying.
"KENNA!" she screamed. "Noah won't let me play!"
"You'll just screw me up," Noah said. "I'm almost at the end of the game and you'll make me lose."
"NO! I WANT TO PLAY!"
"Brooklyn," I said quietly. "Calm down."
"NO! NO! NO!" Brooklyn screamed. She was still crying.
I did not want to deal with this, especially this early in the morning. Thankfully, Dad and Shonali entered the room.
"What's wrong baby?" Shonali asked Brooklyn.
"Noah won't let me play!" Brooklyn said.
"It's okay," Shonali said. "It's almost time for breakfast anyways." She smiled at me briefly before walking away. I headed back to my room. Finally, some peace and quiet. Why didn't I get that more often? Oh well.
I peeked out the window. Nothing interesting. Just blue skies and white snow and the same houses that I saw every day. I collapsed back onto my bed. It was just another average day in an average place with a not so average family.
