lxxvi. studying and epic music
"Are we ever going to get anything done?" I asked Aaron and Justin after our fourth round of Mario Kart.
"Probably not, but this is fun!" Aaron said.
"Yeah, but we came here to study," Justin said. "If we're going to actually do something productive, I have to turn on the Epic Awesome Super Cool Playlist of Productivity!"
"Or not," I mumbled.
Justin apparently didn't hear me, because he turned on the playlist and set it to the highest volume. Not that I minded too much. Justin had pretty good music taste. Justin pulled out his math worksheet. "McKenna?" he asked. "How do I solve this?"
"It's not that hard," I told him. "Weren't you paying attention in class?"
"Uh...no," Justin said. "I rarely do. Everything's usually so easy!"
I started explaining the problem to Justin. He caught on pretty quickly. That was when it dawned on me. Justin wasn't struggling because he wasn't smart or he didn't get it. He was just too used to coasting by.
The music was still loud, but I kind of enjoyed listening to it. None of us were really focusing though. Oh well. Justin was pretty much ready for his math test, and so was I. Teaching someone really was the best way to learn a subject.
"Thank you so much McKenna," Justin told me.
"No problem," I said.
Justin turned up the music again. There was still some hope for him. Maybe we could all turn ourselves around.
