lxxv. justin and his music

Justin had been acting weird lately. He had become more and more obsessed with his phone and we rarely ever saw him without his earbuds. So it wasn't a surprise when Aaron and I sat down at the lunch table and Justin didn't even notice us.

I sort of wondered what was up with him, but I knew not to ask questions. Aaron didn't have that sort of verbal filter though. "I wonder if Justin knows we're here," Aaron said.

"It's not worth it Aaron," I told him.

"Why not?" Aaron asked.

"I'm sure he has some very good reason for ignoring us," I said. Maybe Justin was like me though. Maybe he just wanted to be left alone sometimes.

"I doubt it," Aaron said. "HEY JUSTIN!" he screamed. Justin briefly looked up and then back down at his phone. "He must really hate us or something."

"No he doesn't," I said. I started eating my lunch, but Aaron seemed very determined to get Justin to talk to us. He yelled at Justin some more and when that didn't work, he started poking him repeatedly.

"Could you just stop?" Justin said.

"Yay! You're alive!" Aaron exclaimed.

"Of course. I just wanted to finish listening to this song."

"What song?"

"It's Time."

"Oh yeah. That's a cool song."

I didn't really listen to a lot of the stuff Justin and Aaron listened to. More accurately, I just didn't pay enough attention to what I listened to. Maybe I should start paying a little more attention.

"Hey Justin, can you help me with my math homework?" Aaron asked.

"Probably not," Justin said. "I'm barely passing my own math class."

Barely passing? That was definitely an exaggeration. Justin was too smart for that. Then again, Justin was full of surprises. He put his earbuds back in and turned up the music. I only hoped that Justin was okay.
