lxxxv. bowling season and best friends
"It was really nice of you to come to this," I told Aaron.
"No problem. You went to my lacrosse game." I didn't tell him that I only went because Noah wanted to go. In some ways, Noah and Aaron had a lot in common, but in other ways, they were as different as can be.
Aaron and I headed over to where the club was meeting. "McKenna!" Michelle shouted. "How are you? We clearly need to keep in contact during the off-season."
"Yeah, we do," I said. "I'm alright."
"That's good," Michelle said. "Are we ready to win?"
"Yeah!" I shouted. "Michelle, have you met my friend Aaron?"
Michelle shook her head. "Nice to meet you Aaron."
Aaron smiled. "Nice to meet you too."
Aaron took a seat and Michelle went over to me. "Are you sure you two are just friends?" she whispered.
"Yes!" I said.
"Really? I would have made a move by now. He is cute."
"We. Are. Just. Friends."
"Okay, okay. No need to get defensive."
I never really thought of Aaron like that. He was my best friend. It would be weird if we started dating. I rolled my eyes and headed into the lane. I quickly found my lucky bowling ball and started getting ready to bowl. "Who are we playing?" I asked Michelle.
"Some newbies," Michelle said. "It'll be an easy win."
Michelle was right. Our opponents were probably the two least experienced players on the team. Needless to say, we crushed them. Aaron was cheering for us the entire time, which probably helped.
“You guys did awesome!” Aaron shouted. He was eating a slice of pizza, which he bought from the concessions stand.
“Thanks!” I said.
“It was really nice meeting you Aaron,” Michelle said. “I hope you come to more of these.”
“Are you kidding? Of course I will! There’s pizza!”
I laughed. “You have to have a better reason than that.”
“Oh yeah,” Aaron said. “I get to watch you guys. But pizza!”
“I understand Aaron,” Michelle said. “That was the whole reason I joined!”
We all laughed. “I have to get my homework done,” I said, hoping to escape this awkward conversation. “I’ll see you soon.”
“Bye McKenna!” Michelle said.
I hated to say it, but it really was nice having Aaron there.
