ix. last days and lazy summers

It was the last day of kindergarten. When I arrived in the classroom, I sat down next to Aaron and Justin.

"I can't wait for summer!" Aaron exclaimed.

"I'm going to miss school," Justin said.

"Why?" Aaron asked. "School's so boring."

"No it's not," Justin said. "I like school."

"I'm going to Disney World over the summer!" Aaron shouted.

"Lucky!" I said. "I want to go to Disney World."

"You can't go," Aaron said.

"Don't worry," Justin said. "We can play together when Aaron's gone."

"That sounds fun," I said. I looked out the window. It had rained the night before, so the grass was still wet. In the sky, there was a rainbow. It was a lot lighter than the posters in the classroom, but it still had all of the colors.

"Quiet down, class," Mrs. Stumph said. "As you all know, today is your last day of kindergarten. Today, we'll be making these graduation caps. After you're done, it will be playtime."

"Yay!" Aaron said.

Mrs. Stumph passed out paper, scissors, glue, and instructions on how to make the hats. Arts and crafts was the only thing Justin wasn't good at. His hat ended up looking pretty silly. I tried to be careful, and my hat looked okay. I put it on my head and took out my yearbook. I walked up to Aaron, who was still working on his hat, and Justin, who was reading.

"Can you please sign my yearbook?" I said to both of them.

"Yes!" Aaron said. He took my yearbook and pen and signed it. Justin did the same.

"Thank you," I said. I looked at the brontosaurus. It was Aaron's day today, so I couldn't play with it. I took out some crayons instead and started drawing. I wanted to remember this day forever.
