x. playdates and princesses
Since Aaron was at Disney World, I went over to Justin's house. I really wanted to go to Disney World though. Aaron was so lucky. Justin's house was almost as good though.
"Have fun McKenna!" Daddy said as he pulled up in front of Justin's house.
"Bye Daddy!" I said. I hugged him and then knocked on Justin's door.
"Hi McKenna," Justin said.
"Hi Justin," I said. "Thanks for inviting me over."
"No problem," he said. "Let's go." We headed upstairs to play, but we ran into two girls who looked exactly the same. They were a lot bigger than us.
"Hey Justin," one of them said.
"Who's your little friend?" the other asked.
"This is McKenna," Justin said to them. "McKenna, this is Rebecca and Robin, my sisters."
"Justin!" one of them said. "I'm Robin, she's Rebecca."
"You're always screwing us up," the other said.
"No, you're Rebecca and she's Robin," Justin said. "I can tell the difference."
"Justin, you're too smart," Rebecca said.
"Why do you look so much alike?" I asked.
"Because we're twins, silly," Robin said.
"Robin, I have an idea," Rebecca said.
"What's your idea?" Robin asked.
"Let's do makeovers!" Rebecca shouted.
"Sounds great!" Robin said.
Justin rolled his eyes. "Let's go McKenna," he said.
"No way!" Rebecca said. "Don't you want a makeover?"
"No!" Justin shouted. "Last time, you made me wear a princess dress!"
"Suit yourself," Robin said. "McKenna, do you want a makeover?"
"Of course she does," Rebecca said.
"Don't answer for her!" Robin said. "Do you want a makeover?"
I nodded. This seemed kind of fun. It would give me lots of time to daydream. Besides, I kind of wanted to see Justin in a princess dress.
"Great! Robin, turn on some music!" Rebecca said. Robin turned on the High School Musical soundtrack. Justin took a book from the bookshelf and started reading. Rebecca took out a hairbrush and started playing with my hair.
"Wow, you have such pretty hair," Rebecca said.
"Thank you," I said quietly. Rebecca started pulling on my hair and twisting it. "What are you doing?" I asked.
"Braiding your hair," Rebecca said. Nobody had ever braided my hair before. Rebecca seemed to know what she was doing though. Rebecca took out a ponytail and tied up the braid. Then she took out a mirror. "Want to see?" she asked. I nodded. Rebecca put the mirror in front of my face. My hair looked...different. But it was pretty. I decided I liked it and smiled.
"Let's do her nails next," Robin said. She pulled out a lot of little bottles. "What color do you like best?" I pointed to a color that looked like the sky. "Nice choice."
Rebecca took the color and started painting on my fingernails and toenails. "Now we wait," she said. "You're going to look so pretty McKenna."
Justin groaned. "I thought McKenna and I were going to play."
"Jealous that your friend would rather play with us?" Robin said. "Besides, we all know you would rather read."
"You're just making fun of me because I'm smarter than you," Justin said.
"You're not smarter than me!" Robin said. "Do you know how to do long division?"
Justin shook his head. "What's long division?" I asked.
"It's a math thing," Robin said.
"You'll learn it when you're in third grade," Rebecca said. Third grade. That was so far away. "Speaking of which, your nails are done! You look like a princess, McKenna!"
"Princess McKenna has a nice ring to it," Robin said.
I looked down at my nails. They were a really pretty blue color. I smiled. "Thank you," I said. I was a little bit sad though. I wanted to play with Justin and it was almost time to go home. Maybe we would get to play some other time.
"No problem McKenna," Rebecca said.
"It was nice meeting you," Robin said.
"MCKENNA!" I heard Justin's mommy shout. "Your dad's here!"
I ran downstairs and found Daddy waiting at the door. I said goodbye to everyone and got into Daddy's car. "How was it?" Daddy asked.
"It was okay," I said. I looked like a princess, but I sure didn't feel like one.
