xxix. vacation and the world
Noah, Daddy, Mommy, and I were at the dinner table. It was almost the last day of school. I couldn't wait until summer. I could just hide in the treehouse all day every day until school started. I had learned to love the treehouse. Out of all of the places in the world, it was one of the few places that were mine.
"I have good news!" Daddy shouted.
"What?" the rest of us asked, almost at the same time.
"I got another bonus at work and we're going on vacation!"
Another bonus? When was the first one? Oh right. Christmas. I never quite got what that had to do with the Wii. That was a gift from Santa. It even had a note from Santa himself! I spent so long thinking about this that I almost didn't hear the second part.
Vacation! We were going on vacation! I didn't know where, but we were going out of Odiosis. Probably out of Illinois too.
Noah was thinking the same thing I was. "Yay!" he shouted. "Vacation!"
"Neil, we don't have enough money for this," Mommy said.
"I said, I got a bonus at work," Daddy said.
"Shouldn't you be saving that for college for the kids?" Mommy asked.
"Don't worry so much Janice," Daddy said. "Can't we have a little fun every once in a while?"
Mommy sighed. "Whatever you say Neil."
"Yay! Vacation! Vacation! Vacation!" Noah shouted.
"Quiet down Noah," Mommy said.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"We're still trying to figure that out," Daddy said.
"Can we go to Disney World?" Noah asked.
"Yeah, that sounds fun!" I said.
"That's awfully expensive," Mommy said.
"It's okay," Daddy said. He took out a blue notebook. "We can put it on the list." Daddy wrote something down in the notebook.
"What about Paris?" I asked. I saw the big tower in Paris in a book and it looked cool.
Mommy shook her head, but Daddy wrote it down anyways. Noah and I threw out a few more ideas. London! Hawaii! California! New York! Australia! Canada! India! Texas! Disney World again! It all seemed good to me. I just wanted to go. I wanted school to be done. I wanted to see the world.
