lxxxvi. rock bands and math class
Our math teacher let us choose who we wanted to work on our review packet with, so of course, I chose Justin. Justin was smart, so we would probably finish quickly. When we were, I could get my other homework done.
"Want to work together?" Justin asked before I even had a chance to get up and ask him the same thing.
"Of course," I said. I took out my book. "What did you get for number one?" I asked.
"X squared," Justin rsaid.
"Really?" I asked. My answer wasn't even close. Justin explained how to do the problem. Apparently I didn't even use the right formula.
"I don't get how to do the proof though," Justin said.
"It's not that hard," I said. I explained how to do it, and Justin seemed to understand. He picked things up quickly. It only ended up taking us ten minutes to finish the entire packet. Once we were done, I started working on my science worksheet.
"You know that's not due until Monday, right?" Justin asked.
"Yeah, but you're being a hypocrite. You were working on it during lunch," I said.
"I have band practice tonight and tomorrow night," Justin replied.
"Band practice?" I asked.
"Yeah. I'm in a band."
I tried to imagine Justin in a band, but I really couldn't. He wasn't the type. "What's it called?" I asked.
"The Flaming Zombie Heads. It's kind of a stupid name if you ask me."
"It's not stupid," I said, even though it really was. Seriously, who names their band The Flaming Zombie Heads? "What kind of music do you play?"
"Heavy metal," Justin said.
"I didn't think you liked metal," I said.
"I don't."
"So why are you in a heavy metal band?"
Justin sighed. "Rebecca made me join. She said that she was doing me a favor so I wouldn't be a total geek when I went to high school."
"Oh okay," I said.
"It's a mess," Justin stated. "I don't even like the other guys in the band!"
“Why?” I asked.
“I don’t know. They’re just so mean to me sometimes. It is kind of fun being in a band sometimes.”
I was going to say something, but the bell rang. “See you soon Justin,” I said. I headed off to social studies, my last class. Hopefully Justin would be alright.
