xc. graduation and waiting for summertime

Finally, it was over. I was finally a high schooler. I didn't get the point of celebrating it though. We had just survived three years of hell and they expected us to go to a stupid ceremony about it.

Aaron found me pretty quickly after the ceremony. "Hey McKenna!" he shouted. "Nice dress."

"Thanks," I said, looking down at my cobalt dress. "Shonali helped me pick it out."

"Who's Shonali?" Aaron asked.

"My dad's fiancée," I told him.

"Oh. Justin and I were going to go to the park," Aaron said. "Want to come?"

I didn't really want to go. I was tired and I really just wanted to go home and relax. I didn't want to let Aaron and Justin down though. "Sure," I said. "Just let me ask my dad."

Dad, Shonali, Brooklyn, and Noah were all waiting for me. Dad immediately gave me a hug. "Congratulations McKenna," he said.

"Thanks Dad," I said.

"Kenna! Good job!" Brooklyn shouted.

"Thanks. Maybe you'll learn my real name one of these days?"

Brooklyn looked utterly perplexed, as if she always thought Kenna was my real name, which she probably did. Whatever. She'd figure it out eventually. "Dad? Can I go to the park with Aaron and Justin?" I asked.

"No problem," he said.

I ran to the park and found Aaron and Justin, who were already there. “I can’t believe it’s summer already,” Justin said.

“Me neither,” I replied. I jumped up onto the monkey bars. It seemed silly to be playing in the dirt with such fancy clothes on, but I didn’t care. We had fun.

A/N: So we had to take these stupid tests today. I'm very annoyed right now for 2 reasons:

1. We had to write a story, but it was a continuation of a passage from The Hounds of Baskerville, so I couldn't re-use any of my story ideas.

2. I wrote most of this chapter of a piece of scratch paper during the test, but THE TEACHER TOOK IT so I lost my work!

Ok. Rant over. Thanks for reading!
