As soon as they made it to the hospital, Josh was helped out by a couple of nurses who escorted him to the front desk to get checked in. He would just need to get a few stitches for his head and check to see how bad his concussion was.

Farkle walked in behind him and looked over towards the waiting room. He immediately sighed in a breath of relief as he looked over and saw Smackle sitting over by Lucas. He walked over and she stood up when she saw him.

"Thank God you're okay." Farkle said. He put an arm on her shoulder, aware of everyone else that was around them.

"You found Josh!" She exclaimed with a smile as she looked over her fiancé's shoulder at their team leader. But none of that was Farkle's concern right now.

"Smackle." He said her name calmly but sternly, trying to get her attention on him. "What were you thinking taking off like that without telling anyone? Do you realize how dangerous that was?" He asked her. She narrowed her eyebrows at him.

"I don't need you to remind me. I sit behind my desk and watch ungodly things come onto my screens every day. I have to watch you go out into the field and not know if you're going to make it back or not. And I can't do anything about it. I just have to sit and wait for news. Well I got tired of waiting." She told him.

"I was on the phone with Josh when the explosion happened." She continued. "I was the one that had to hear him say goodbye. I was the one that heard just how scared he really was, Farkle. I was the one that almost potentially heard him die."

"But he didn't." Farkle told her. She glared at him.

"But I didn't know that. For all I know, he could have. And I'm sorry, but I wasn't about to sit back and wait to hear the news that he was. Not this time." Farkle stared at her as she crossed her arms over herself. She took a visible deep breath to try and calm herself down.

"I'm sorry." He suddenly apologized. "I'm really sorry, Smackle. All this time I never thought to ask how you-"

"Don't." She cut him off. "I don't want you to feel sorry for me. I want to be treated like an equal on this team." Farkle was quiet for a moment.

"Are you saying you want to go into the field?" He asked her. His voice held a little bit of fear in it. She shook her head.

"No. I get enough of the real stuff in my office. But I don't want to have to just sit around and wait to hear." She told him. She suddenly hit her lip and looked up at Farkle. "Farkle, as much as I hated that it was Josh in that ambulance. I don't know how I would have reacted if it was you-"

"Stop." It was his turn to cut her off. "Don't think Like that. It wasn't me, and Josh is fine. Please don't worry yourself about the 'what if's', Isadora." He said. He brought his hand up to her cheek and quickly wiped away a tear that had fallen down her cheek.

"Okay." She whispered in a quiet agreement. Farkle bit his lip and sighed at her. He didn't care that there were people watching, or that their boss was quite literally a few feet away from them. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and brought her into a hug.

"I promise, no more waiting around to hear." He told her. Smackle seemed to let out a breath of relief of this as she wrapped her arms around his torso and leaned her head on his chest. Farkle rested his head on top of hers as he looked over to where Lucas was standing. "How's Maya?" He asked.

Lucas didn't say anything about the way they were hugging at the moment. Normally he would have been warning Farkle to back off for the sake of their jobs, but now really wasn't the time to enforce rules. This whole case they had been throwing the rule book out the window.

"I don't know. I haven't heard since they took her into surgery." Lucas said. He looked tired and worn. He looked like he had been running his hands through his hair out of stress all night. "Riley wants to badly to come up here. But I had to tell her no. She wants to be with Maya, but-"

"I get it." Farkle said. "Maybe you should talk to Josh about heading home for the night." Lucas shook his head.

"No. Riley can't be here. She'd kill me if she knew I left Maya up here alone." Lucas told him.

"She's not alone. She has us." Farkle told him as he and Smackle broke apart. "You haven't slept all night. Riley needs you."

"Riley needs Maya." Lucas said. "It kills me that I can't bring her here. I'm worried that it's not safe yet."

"Hey," Josh interrupted as he walked over towards them. "How's Maya?" He asked.

"I still haven't heard anything. She's still in surgery." Lucas answered. Josh sighed.

"I have to go get stitches." He said. "Did the doctor say how long the surgery would take?" He asked. Lucas shook his head.

"No. But they're worried about her. I just hope that no news is good news." Lucas stated. Josh eyed him for a moment.

"Where's Zay?" He asked.

"He's downstairs. Him and Mia are working with the other Agents to get the anthrax out and secure the building." Farkle said. Josh nodded.

"As soon as they're done, tell him to get up here and stay with Maya and wait for news. Lucas, go home." Josh ordered. Lucas glanced up at him.

"I-"

"Yes. You can." Josh interrupted. "You've told Riley about Maya, right?" Josh asked. Lucas nodded. "And she can't be here because of the kids. Then she's going to need you. Go home, Lucas. Be with your family and take care of my niece." He told him.

"But Josh-"

"That's an order." Josh stated before he let a nurse pull him away and into one of the back rooms to get his stitches. Lucas bit his lip and looked up at Farkle who nodded at him. Lucas sighed and grabbed his phone out to call Zay.

"I'm going to head back to headquarters with Josh after he gets his stitches. He wants to talk to David in one of the interrogation rooms." Farkle told Smackle.

"Why? I thought the case was over." She said. Farkle nodded his head.

"I think he wants to be the one to tell David that he lost." Farkle told her.

"Shouldn't that be Maya's job?" Smackle asked him. Farkle sighed.

"Maya isn't going to be doing a lot of things for a while. Lucas said that-" he swallowed the lump that was coming in his throat. "-the doctor said it doesn't look good."

"Maya will be okay." Smackle comforted him. "She's strong. She's made it this far, she's not going to give up now." She said.

"I should have gone with her." Farkle stated. "I should have forced her to go to the hospital when I had the chance. I should have-" he took a deep breath, trying to get ahold of himself. "-I should have protected her. I'm her partner. I should have had her back out there."

"Farkle, there wasn't anything that you could have done." Smackle said. Farkle sighed as he hung his head low. He cleared his throat as he tired to calm himself down.

"I wish I could believe that." He whispered at her. Smackle frowned as Farkle ran a hand through his hair and went to go sit down beside Lucas.
