Everything hurt. Now Maya understood what people meant with they said they felt like they got hit by a truck. Everything was also extremely fuzzy, and whatever the hell that light was, it was blinding.

Maya groaned as she opened her eyes fully, wincing at how bright the room was. It took her a minute to understand where she was, it hurt to move anything. She looked around as best she could, it was obvious she was in the hospital. And- oh. Right.

Everything started coming back to her. The case, the beating she took from David, then the arrest she made later. Josh. Oh, she really wanted to see Josh. And the rest of her team.

The ringing in her ears finally stopped, and she was able to hear voices outside of her room. They were mumbled, so she couldn't hear exactly what they were saying. She looked over and noticed Josh's back staring at her from the window of her room. And, with a jolt of realization, he was talking to the head chief of the FBI. In other words, she was screwed.

"I don't care how good of an Agent she is, Matthews. She disobeyed direct orders, argued with other Agents on live national television. She put herself and others in danger, and went after an armed terrorist in the condition she's in. You heard the doctor, she's even lucky to still be alive! She should have gone to the hospital when she was told."

Josh sighed as he looked at his supervisor (Daniel Helton) He was trying really hard to help Maya keep her job at this point, but it really wasn't looking good.

"With all due respect sir, she did take down that armed terrorist and saved millions of lives in the process. If it hadn't been for her inside help, half of the City  would be dead by now." Josh said.

"You don't think I understand that, Matthews? I know the kind of sacrifices Agent Hunter has made to get to this point, but she has to learn discipline! What would it look like to other Agents if the bureau just let her flounce around and do whatever she wants?" He argued.

"To be fair sir, this was a personal case for her-"

"Which is why she shouldn't have been put on the case in the first place." Helton said, giving him a pointed stare. Josh swallowed hard.

"Peterson asked for her personally-"

"And that is the only reason I allowed it. He assured me that you had assured him that Agent Hunter would be able to keep her composer under control during this case. Which she obviously failed to do on many occasions. She'll be lucky if she ever is allowed to go on another undercover assignment again, and that's only if I decide not to fire her!" Helton snapped.

Josh had to bite his tongue back, especially when Peterson was brought up. But that was another conversation for another time. Josh once again sighed as he looked up towards Helton with an almost pleading look on his face.

"Is there anything that I can do- that Agent Hunter can do- so that she will have a job to come back to after her suspension?" Josh asked. Helton took in a breath and was silent for a moment, as if he was thinking about a possible solution.

"Well for starters, Agent Michael Conners family still has not been notified of his death. Peterson said that you had agreed to take that on." Helton said. Josh nodded his head.

"I've made plans to inform the family as soon as I know that Agent Hunter is awake and well. I'll be delivering the news myself." Josh said through gritted teeth. He was going to be taking full responsibility for a case he had no control over in the first place while Peterson got to take the cowards way out.
