A few days went by and it seemed as if David spent all of his time working on the charity ball. Calling people, sending invitations out to guests. He was cooped up in his office, stress was evident in his posture and his tone, as everyone were doing their best to stay away from him.

Maya didnt know if now was a good time to try and get something out of him or not. She couldn't risk talking to Michael. There were eyes everywhere, and Maya was starting to get suspicious on if David had told some of his guys to keep their eyes on her and Michael.

Walking into his office, Maya felt like she was walking into a lion's den. She hoped that perhaps the past weeks that they have gotten closer would mean something to him and he wouldn't treat her like he's treated all the other people that has tried to see him.

David looked up from his desk and glanced at her before he went back to what he was doing. He was currently on the phone, and by the looks of it, it wasn't going very well.

"I told you. I told you, that this was not an option! You have that ready for me by tomorrow morning, otherwise we're going to have a problem!" He hung up the phone and ran a hand through his hair. He looked up at Maya and seemed to calm down just a little bit.

"Is now a bad time?" Maya asked him. He shook his head and let out a deep sigh before he got up from his desk chair and walked over to her.

"It's never a bad time for you." He told her. Maya let out a small breath of relief. He held out his hand for her to take, and he squeezed it.

"I'm sorry I haven't been around much. These preparations for the charity event have me going crazy." He told her. Maya tilted her head at him.

"Care to share?" She asked him. David shook his head.

"There's nothing that you can help with, Sugar." He winked at her. "It's nice to have a distraction though." He told her as he leaned down to kiss her. Maya pulled back and gave him a look.

"Why dont you let me help with some of the preparations. I can take a load off." She told him. He shook his head.

"I got it. You just keep being my safety net." He told her before he turned away and back to his desk. Maya sighed as she walked around his office and took a look around.

Even though she had been here hundreds of times, she had never really taken the time to look around and notice all the little things. Like the pictures that were hanging up in his office, his certificates that he's been given by different companies and organizations all over New York.

Seeing these pictures made her miss her own family and friends so much. She wanted so bad to go visit them again. But she couldn't. It was too risky. If she even mentioned going to visit her mother again, David would insist on going with her. She couldn't let that happen.

"Come on," Maya said as she came across the room and wrapped her arms around him from behind. "Let me help you." She told him. David let out a breath before turning around in her arms.

"Josie, What I show you about who I am. There is no turning back. You cant walk away from it, and I'm trying to shield you from it as long as I can." He stated.

"Well what if I dont want to walk away. What if whatever you tell me, cant change the way that I feel about you." She looked right into his eyes. David didnt say anything for a moment before he broke away from her and opened one of his drawers to his desk.

"I've been moving people out of New York and to a different house over in LA." He told her. "I've been making some changes. Changes that include leaving here."

"Leaving New York?" She asked him, shocked. David nodded his head.

"I have seen enough of this City. These people. I have something big planned for them. Something that they will remember for years to come, they'll know better than to double cross me again." The look on his face caused Maya to feel panic rise up inside.

"So you're wanting to move everything out to Californa." Maya confirmed as she moved closer to him. "What big thing are you planning?" She asked him.

"This charity ball is going to get me what I need. Arrogant fools. They are paying for the very thing that will destroy them." David said bitterly. Maya clenched her fists together as she tried not to react.

"What are you planning?" She asked him. David snapped his head over at her and cracked a smile.

"Later." He told her. "Right now I have other things to attend to. Why dont you take James and go out shopping for a dress to wear on Friday night." He told her. Maya raised an eyebrow.

"I thought you didnt like it when I was with James." She said.

"Today I'll make an exception. I would love to have you on my arm wearing something that will make all the men in the room envious." He winked at her. Maya felt uncomfortable at that statement. But she smiled and nodded as she turned to leave the room.

Michael was right. David was planning something huge. He knew about the charity ball, but he had no idea that the money being raised was for the potential downfall of New York City itself. Her City. The City she loved and grew up in. No. She wouldnt let it go that far. She would stop him. She would finish what Carry started.
