Hey everyone! Thanks for reading and commenting! Hope you enjoy it!
PS; I know nothing about physical therapy or how shoulder injuries work, so just roll with this.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________Maya sat down on the chair beside the hospital-like bed that was in the physical therapy office. Dr. Wells was staring at her chart with a small frown on his face as he went over some of the papers.
"I have to say, I'm a little disappointed." He spoke. "I expected us to have better results this far along in our sessions together." He admitted. Maya frowned.
"What do you mean? My shoulder is getting better. I'm able to stretch and move it further out than I was able to last week." She protested.
"Yes, that is true. But it's still giving you issues in areas that I was hoping to have moved past by now." He glanced at her over the clipboard. "Are you sure you're doing the exercises I told you to do at home?" He asked with a slight accusation in his tone. Maya rolled her eyes.
"Yes doc, every night just like you told me." She stated. And she was. Josh made sure of it. In fact, most nights he would stand there and make sure she did them. Almost as if he were watching a five-year-old eat their broccoli instead of giving it to the dog.
On the other side of the spatula, however. On nights that Maya didn't do her exercises, Josh helped her give her shoulder a workout in more pleasurable ways.
"And your pain meds?" Dr. Wells snapped her out of her thoughts. "Are you still taking those when needed?" He asked.
Maya cringed. "Definitely." Now, this was a lie. Those pain pills the hospital gave her were still sealed up like brand new sitting on her coffee table in the living room.
The pain in her shoulder had gradually gotten worse due to the soreness mixing in with her injury from all the exercises she was doing. But it was easy to tell Josh that this was as far as her shoulder would let her go at this point in recovery. He didn't question her, after all, she was doing her exercises.
It had become more difficult to move her shoulder in the daytime though. The pain was sometimes so bad that Maya would have to bite down hard on her lip to keep from crying out and making Josh suspicious. She knew she was only doing this to herself, but there was no way she was going to touch those main meds.
"Well," Dr. Wells continued with a sigh. "I suppose this means we have a longer recovery process ahead of you than we originally thought." He stated. Maya snapped her head up.
"What do you mean longer? I thought I was going to be as good as new in just a couple of months!" Maya exclaimed. Dr. Wells placed her chart down and leaned against the wall with his arms folded across his chest.
"That was what I originally thought. But perhaps the scar tissue was in worst shape than we thought. I could do a few X-rays to be sure, but with the rate you're going we're looking at maybe another month on top of the ones you already have." He explained. Maya's eyes widened.
"Another month!" She exclaimed. "No way. That's not an option for me."Maya shook her head.
"You might not have a choice, Agent Hunter. Your shoulder needs the proper time to heal and get better so that you don't risk injuring it further when in the field. You're doing everything you're supposed to. Sessions with me - exercise at home and pain meds when you need them. If you're doing everything on your part right then you must let nature take its course in healing your shoulder."
Dr. Wells turned away to rummage through his drawer for a few seconds. Maya bit her lip. She didn't understand how not taking those stupid pain pills could make her recovery process take longer. It's almost as if the world were against her and it was making it its personal mission to cause her as many problems as possible. Maya sighed.
