Taking a deep breath and smoothing her dress out with her hands, Maya looked in the mirror and stared at her reflection. She was wearing the dress for the charity ball and had just gotten done doing her makeup and hair.

She looked good. Really good. Better than what she had imagined she would when she had bought the dress. Michael had told her to try it on before she bought it because she wouldn't have time to come back and get another one. But Maya knew her size, she knew what kind of dress she needed and what style to get.

She didnt need to spend hours trying on dresses in changing rooms just to find the right one. It always killed her when Riley would spend forever in changing rooms just to find a dress for a special event that she was only going to wear once.

Grabbing the black heels that were on the floor beside her mirror, Maya slipped them on her feet and put the final touches of the outfit as she put her neckless around her neck and clasped it. Grabbing her purse, she turned her light off and walked out the door.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" Maya gasped out as she ran right into Max on her way out. She looked up and smiled at him, but he kept his head down and avoided her gaze.

"No problem." He mumbled as he tried to walk past her. But Maya wasn't having it, she wanted to know why all of a sudden he was avoiding her.

"Wait." She called out as she grabbed his arm and pulled him back. She saw a flash of panic in his eyes as he looked around before he averted his eyes to the wall behind her. Maya narrowed her eyebrows.

"Are you okay?" She asked him. "Did someone do something to you? Have you been threatened?" She asked him lowly. Max locked his jaw before pulling his arm out of her grip.

"I have to go." He said, then he left her standing there. Maya watched him walk down the hall and round the corner out of sight. She bit her lip. Something was wrong with him.

"Josie?" Maya turned around and looked to see David standing there, smiling at her. Maya put a fake smile on her face as she started walking over towards him. He was looking at her like she was the only person in the world. "You look amazing." He said after letting a low whistle out.

"Why thank you. You look very handsome yourself." And he did. David was one of the most handsome guys that Maya had ever seen. Even she couldn't deny that. David held out his hands for her to take and he smiled at her.

"Are you ready to go?" He asked her. "Guests should already be arriving. I like to get there a little late to the game, especially when I have someone as beautiful as you on my arm." He told her. Maya grinned at him. "Max will hold things down here while we're gone." He told her.

Maya thought about asking David if Max seemed weird to him, but she decided not to risk it. Chances are whatever is bothering him came from David, and she didnt want to tip David off that he was being suspicious if David had been the one to cause it.

David held his arm out and Maya took it and let him lead her down the stairs and out to the main door. He helped Maya into the back of his car as he settled in beside her and told his driver to drive. They enjoyed the nice peace and quiet that it gave them. David reached over and grabbed Maya's hand in a firm grip.

"Perhaps later tonight we'll be able to have a little celebration of our own?" He whispered in her ear, his breath tickling the side of her neck.

Maya's breath hitched. But not in a good way. She felt her stomach turn uncomfortably. David had been very good not to force her to do anything that she wasn't willing to do since she had gotten there. But Maya had figured that his patience was wearing thin. It had been three months since she started undercover and Maya had thought it was only a matter of time before she had to do other things to get closer to him. But she didn't want to, and she wondered how many excuses she could really come up with before he started getting suspicious.

Getting to the charity ball was almost a bit too overwhelming. There were cameras outside capturing their arrival and the arena was packed. So many people were already inside. Maya took a deep breath as the driver came around and opened their door for them. David got out first and then helped her out.

There was flashes everywhere. People were smiling at them and talking over each other. It was like they were some kind of celebrities. But Maya knew that David was a big deal. She understood why everyone was flashing lights and talking to him like he was important. Because he had made himself important.

As they entered into the arena, the party was in full swing. David held his arm out and Maya took it as he started leading her further in. People started coming up to them and talking, complimenting on how good they looked.

"I'm going to get a drink." Maya whispered to David. He gave a side glance and nodded as he was caught up in a conversation about business.

Maya let go of his arm and walked over to where the refreshment table was. There was all sorts of stuff surrounding it. Maya grabbed a small cup and started poring herself some water when Michael came to stand beside her to grab a drink of his own.

"I hope your acting skills are going to be able to uphold tonight." Michael whispered to her. Maya narrowed her eyebrows as she finished poring the water and then bringing it up to her lips.

"Why do you say that? I've been doing this for three months now and haven't gotten caught, what would make tonight any different?" Maya asked him. Michael cleared his throat.

"At your three." He told her. Maya casually looked over to her right a little, and her breath hitched. Her heart stopped and she felt like her insides were coming up to her throat.

Because over in the corner stood Farkle.
