_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________Josh rubbed his eyes and then reached over for his mug. He finished off what would be his fourth cup of coffee that night. It was six in the morning and he had been there all night going over and looking at Maya's case file.
He had left a total of seven messages on Peterson's phone trying to get a hold of him to find out anything he could about Maya. But after hanging up the last time, he decided to see if there may be room to send another undercover agent in there with her. One who would be able to send messages and updates to him about how Maya was doing.
The others weren't supposed to be in for a couple more hours. They had been piling themselves with more and more cases recently trying to get their minds off the fact that it had been a month now since Maya had gone under and they hadn't heard a single thing.
Even Lucas was now starting to ask more and more recently. He seemed to be getting just as worried as the others as reality has started to sneak down on them. Josh had often wondered if he should just go to Peterson's office and have it out with him.
At eight o'clock the team had started to pile into headquarters. They all headed to their desks. Josh watched them from his window. They all looked tired and worn. They all sat at their desks and started working on the mountains of paperwork that was set in front of them. Farkle didnt. He kept staring at the empty desk right across from his.
The replacement that they had for Maya didnt work out. Farkle would not work with her, and he flipped out on Josh when she was assigned to Maya's desk. The rest of the team had a hard time adjusting to her as well, even Lucas who also couldn't get his mind off of Maya. So Josh told his boss that they would be fine without her.
The phone in his office rung, but Josh ignored it. He knew it wasn't Peterson, the man had made it obvious that he wasn't going to call him back or even attempt to get in contact with him. And frankly, he had no interest in talking to anyone else.
Even though it was a bit easier not having a replacement for Maya around, it still makes things difficult. Maya's empty desk only seemed to make things worse on everyone, and cases were a lot harder now being one man down. Josh sighed as he left his office to debrief them about a new case Smackle has shown him the night before. Speaking of Smackle.
"Josh!" She exclaimed as she came down the hallway and into the room.
The whole team including Josh turned around to the entrance to look at her.
"What is it?" He asked her.
"There is a phone call waiting for you in your office on line one. It seems like Maya found a way to contact us."

A knock on her room door jumped Maya out of her sleep. She looked over at the clock and saw that it was half past seven in the morning.Maya got up from bed and walked over to the door. She opened it to see David's smiling face on the other side.
"Good morning." He told her. "I wanted to give you the opportunity to go into town today and grab some things. I know you have to be running low and James said he would accompany you." He told her.
Maya looked behind his shoulder and saw James. She had learned that he was one of the three that David trusted most. He was one of the ones that was there that day that he tried to get Max to kill that man.
"Get dressed, I'll give you money before you leave." Maya shut the door and turned back to her room.
It had been a month since she had gone under. Nobody had gotten in contact with her like Peterson said they would. She hadnt even heard from Peterson, and it was safe to bet that Josh hadnt heard anything either.
Although, David was starting to trust her more. He had allowed her to come in and observe alot about the buisness he runs. Turns out he is the owner of a big corprate office up in Manhattann. But he just uses the buisness as an excuse to bring drugs and women into the United States.
David hadnt killed anyone again since that night he had taken out that one guy in his office. But Maya had a feeling he just wasnt doing it in front of her. She and Max had formed a realtionship though. The more Maya got to know him, the more he reminded her of Farkle.
His parents died when he was really young and he came to live with David. He really had grown up in all this from the time he was little. It's all he's ever known. David made him go to business college so that one day he could take over. And he meant take over everything. The business, the drugs, the sex trafficing.
But Max told Maya all about how he didnt want to take over. How he had wanted to go to the police as soon as he was old enough, but he didnt want to get David in trouble. And that David was the only reason he hadnt gone to the police.
Maya got dressed and ready real quickly. She came out of the room and was greeted by David who had been waiting for her. He smiled at her before he handed her a debit card. She looked down and noticed that it was in her name, well, her undercover name.
"I put a few hundred thousand in there to get you started." He told her. Maya felt sick. She looked up at him and put a fake smile on her face.
"Thank you." She whispered. David shrugged his shoulders.
"I'll add more once you start getting low. But you dont worry about that. You go out and pamper yourself. James will be with you, but he'll make sure not to smother you. He's really good at dissappearing in the crowd and turning back up when you need him." He told her. Maya nodded.
David walked away and Maya started down the stairs. James was waiting on her. He didnt say anything to her as he opened the front door of the house for her and waited for her to go first.
Neither of them said anything as he opened the car door for her and closed it behind her. He got into the seat beside her and told the driver to drive downtown.
Something about James seemed off to Maya. He didnt talk to her very much. Max and Simon, Simon was the other of the three that David trusted most. They both talked to her all the time. But Maya couldnt remember James ever saying a word to her. She wondered why he was the one that was taking her into town instead of Max or Simon.
"Go ahead home, I'll call you when we're ready to be picked up." James told the dirver as he and Maya got out of the car. The driver nodded before he drove off. Maya saw all kinds of shops that looked as if they were from Gucci. "Come with me." James told her as he started walking when the driver was out of sight.
Maya followed him not wanting him to take some type of bad report home to David about how she had tried to escape or something like that. They were walking for a few minutes before they came to a payphone booth.
"Here." He handed Maya 50 cents. "Make it quick, you cant let Agent Matthews be on the phone for too long."
Maya snapped her head up and stared at him. James was looking at her in all seriousness.
"What?" She asked him. James rolled his eyes.
"Agent Hunter we dont have all day. If you're going to call your team and let them know that you're okay, you'll need to hurry." He explained to her.
"Who are you?" Maya asked with her eyes wide.
"Look I cant explain everything to you right now. The less you know the better. Just know that Peterson did give you backup." He told her. "You better hurry. Agent Matthews will want to hear from you."
Maya slowly walked into the booth and put the change in. She dialed the office number and waited for it to be answered. Three rings later.
"FBI Headquarters, New York, City. Isadora Smackle speaking."
