Mixed Feelings

I know its been a while, I have been really busy with school and work. Anyway, I hope y'all enjoy this next chapter. I have to warn you, it might be a little emotional. Happy thanksgiving!!

Nobody knew what to say as silence grew around them. Some eyes staring at the floor while others stared at the wall.

"That's what happened, the real reason why Carrie is dead." Maya said as she sat down beside Farkle who had his fists clenched.

"I cant believe this, why didnt anyone tell us?" Zay asked as he shook his head.

"They couldn't. It was Carrie's job and it was too risky for us to know. You shouldn't even be telling us that you're going under." Lucas said pointing that last sentence to Maya.

"She's not." Farkle said causing Maya to sigh as she looked over at him. "Maya isn't going undercover its too dangerous." He said shaking his head.

"That's her decision Farkle, we cant make that for her." Lucas told him. Farkle still shook his head no.

"I'll go under instead." He said. Maya was about to say something when Josh came into the room.

"You cant. These drug dealers know what you look like, they know what all of you look like except Maya. That's why they want her." Josh stood at the head of the meeting table and watched all the confused and angry glances thrown his way.

"But Maya cant do this by herself!" Farkle argued.

"Josh, are you really okay with her doing this?" Zay asked. Josh sighed as he rested his hands on the table.

"The human part of me says no." Josh said causing Maya to roll her eyes and lean back in her chair. "But the professional part of me, the part of me that's Maya's boss and nothing more says that its our only hope to catching these guys." Lucas raised his eyebrows at Josh's choice of words but decided not to question it since now wasn't the time. Nobody else seemed to notice as they were too focused on the problem at hand.

"Unacceptable." Farkle told them shaking his head.

"Farkle, dont you want to catch the guys who did this?" Maya asked getting frustrated. Farkle looked over at her.

"Of course I do, Maya! But not at your expense! I've already lost one partner this year, I'm not going to lose another one!" He yelled out causing Maya to get a fire in her eyes.

"Enough!" Josh yelled out. Everyone turned back to him. "No matter how we feel about this, ultimately this is Maya's decision, and if she wants to go under the only thing we can do is make sure that we have her back." Farkle closed his eyes and let out a breath.

"I dont think she should go under either." Zay said as he sided with Farkle. Again Lucas shook his head.

"But if this is the only way to get these guys off the street and save hundreds of lives than Maya has to do it, its her job. You don't sign up to be in the FBI if you dont accept that you have to go undercover once in a while." Lucas told them. Josh nodded.

"As much as I hate it, Lucas is right." Josh told them causing both Farkle and Zay to let out sighs.

"Are any of you going to acknowledge the fact that I am still in the room and I still have say over what I do with my career!" Maya yelled out. Suddenly it was a full out argument of rather or not Maya should go undercover causing Mia, who had stayed quiet this whole time until now, speak up and say something.

"If this team didnt agree on something in the past we used to vote on it." Mia told them ignoring the glares that were coming from everyone except for Lucas and Josh.

"I think that's a great idea." Josh said biting his lip as he looked up at everyone. "We vote on it and see." Maya scoffed causing Josh to look over at her. "We're still a team, Maya."

"This isn't how the FBI works, Josh. You cant vote on saving lives." Maya told him. Josh nodded his head.

"I know that, but I'm sure if they had to they could find someone else to do the job that isn't you. I do find it a little weird that they would ask you to finish what Carrie started." Josh told her. Maya shrugged her shoulders.

"Maybe because they know that I was her partner, and if there was anyone who would feel motivated to take these guys down it would be me." Maya said starting to get a little defensive.

"Maya's vote doesnt count." Farkle said causing Maya to glare at him. Josh looks over at her.

"Are you okay with that?" He asks. Maya hesitates for a moment before sighing and nodding. Josh nods his head and begins the votes.

"I think she should go under. She will be saving a lot of lives and we'll have her back all the way through it." Josh said. Maya smiled a little at him before looking at the ground.

"I agree, I have a daughter and I would want the guys that were selling her drugs off the street. I think that if this is the way to do it then its worth the risk." Lucas said. Farkle shook his head.

"Well I think its too dangerous. A bullet to the head is faster than us being able to bust down doors to get to her." Farkle said, Zay nodded.

"I agree with Farkle, at least put someone in there with her." He said but Josh shook his head.

"They cant, Maya is the only one from this team that can do it. It's either her or they find someone else from a different state to fly in." Josh informed them. Zay shook his head.

"Then let them find someone else." Zay said sitting back in his chair. Everyone looked over at Mia who had a unreadable expression on her face.

"When Carrie came to me and said that she wanted to go under, I supported her. It was her decision, and I backed it a hundred percent. Then when we lost her, and I found out it was because of this whole undercover thing I blamed myself because I felt as her team leader that maybe there was something I should have done to stop it, I dont think I could go through that again." Mia said. A slight smile could be seen on Farkle's face as Maya was beginning to feel angry and frustrated with everyone. "However," Mia continued causing the hope to come back in Maya's eyes and the frustration to go to Farkle now. "Carrie use to talk about all the time how Maya had such a gift when it came to this, How if there was anyone on this team she would want having her back it would be her. So because of that, I think she should go under."

Maya broke out into a smile as Josh nodded his head and Farkle slouched down in his seat.

"Okay, I will call the other agents back and let them know Maya's decision." Josh said as he himself looked like he was broken with Mia's answer.

"I'll be sure to let your family know to start planning your funeral arrangements the next time I see them." Farkle snapped at Maya as he got up out of his chair and stomped off out of the room. Maya started to get up to go after him but Lucas grabbed her arm and pulled her down while shaking his head.

"Let the shock ware off, he'll be okay." He told her. Maya sighed as everyone got up to leave the room.

"Promise me you'll be careful?" Josh asked when it was only them left in the room. Maya smiled.

"Josh, I'm not worried." She said as she got up out of her seat to face him. "I'm not worried because no matter what's going on between us. You'll always have my back, and you would never let me fall." She told him before leaning up and kissing him on the cheek. "Thanks for always having my back." She told him before she turned around and left the room leaving him there to stare in shock.
