The explosion was still ringing in their ears as they both looked up and saw the fire that was raging over the shack still. Debris was still flying. Both Josh and Zay continued to stare in shock, reality sinking in.

"Oh no, no not today." Zay spoke as he got up.

"Maya." Josh said, more to himself as he got up and started running over to where the fire was. Both him and Zay stopped short when it became too hot and they looked all over, everything was practically ash.

"Maya!" Zay yelled, not caring if David heard him or not. Panic was rising in both of them, both of them refusing to believe that Maya was in this fire. Refusing to believe that she was inside when it exploded.

Panic came inside them. They both looked at each other with disbelief expressions and almost scared looks.

"MAYA!" Josh yelled.

"We're over here!" Max called out from a distance. Both Zay and Josh snapped their heads over to where the voice was coming from. "Over here!" He yelled again. They looked over behind them and saw both Max and Maya coming out from an opening. Max was supporting Maya with his arms around her, helping her walk.

Both Josh and Zay took off running to meet them in the clearing, away from the explosion. They ran up as fast as they could to the two, but they both stopped in their tracks when they saw Maya's condition.

"Call an ambulance." Josh told Zay as he came closer towards Maya. He felt anger course through him. Her nose was obviously broken, her right eye and left cheek were bruised. Dry blood on her face. She was holding her ribs, and Josh could only imagine how bad she felt.

"It's not as bad as it looks." Maya told them, but her body betrayed her words as she doubled over in pain. Josh immediately took her from Max's arms and pulled her into his, helping her sit down on a rock that was nearby.

"No cell crevice." Zay told him.

"Well find some." Josh snapped, never taking his eyes off of Maya.

"No. Zay don't. I'm fine. We need to find David. I don't know where he went, but he hasn't been gone for long." Maya told them.

"He's probably headed back to his house, there are always last minute items for him to get." Max told her. He was standing beside Zay, and in front of Maya, looking at her in concern.

"We need to get over there. We can't let him leave the city." Maya told them.

"Maya, you need a hospital." Zay told her as he stared down at her. Maya shook her head.

"How many ribs do you think he broke?" Josh asked her. Maya shook her head again.

"I don't know. I'm not a doctor." She snapped at him. Josh gave her a look before looking back over at Zay.

"Head to the car, try and get some cell service, call an ambulance and then call the others and tell the-"

A loud gunshot cut Josh off from what he was saying. And a gasp came from Maya as her eyes widened. Josh looked up and noticed Max, who was now holding his chest with blood covered hands. It all seemed like it has happening in slow motion.

"M-Maya." He sputtered out before collapsing on the ground.

"No. No, no, no, no, no." Maya chanted as she got down from the rock and knelt down beside him. "Max, Max hold on." She said as she put her hands over the gunshot wound. "I-I need something. I-I need anything." Josh took off his blazer and handed it to her, and Maya put it over his chest and applied pressure to the wound. "Hang in there, Max. Zay! Get to the car! I need the paramedics!"

Zay took off running in the direction of the car to try and get cell service. Maya continued to apply pressure. Josh knelt down beside her and put his steady hands over her shaking ones and helped apply pressure.

"M-Maya. I-I don't want-I can't- I'm sorry." Max's voice trembled as Maya kept the pressure on the wound.

"You're not going to die! You stay with me Max!" Maya had unshed tears In her eyes. "Why didn't you bring paramedics with you! Why did you come alone!" Maya yelled at Josh. Josh knew she didn't mean it though, she was hurting.

"Maya, the paramedics won't get here in time." Josh whispered in her ear.

"Then we have to get him to the car! We have to go help me move him!" Maya yelled out as she tried to pick Max up.

"Maya, Maya stop!" Josh yelled. "He'll bleed out faster if you move him." Josh told her. Maya stopped, and she let the tears flow.

"No." She whispered as she knelt her head down. "No, God please no." She whispered.

"I-it's okay." Max gasped out. "I-I knew th-this was going to happen." He coughed up blood, and Maya looked up at him, her vision blurry with tears. "I- I wanted to sa-save you, l-like you s-s-saved me."

"I promised you." Maya said through her tears, her voice trembling. "I promised you this wouldn't happen." She cried. Josh put a hand on Maya's shoulder and looked away from the scene, he looked all over the woods trying to catch a glimpse of David.

"I-I'm so s-sorry. I- I couldn't d-do more." Tears came into his eyes. "I'm so scared." He whispered to her. "P-please stay w-with me." He asked her. Maya nodded her head and held his hand, Max swallowed hard and his eyes went to the sky. His chest rose one last time, and he was gone.

"I'm so sorry." Maya cried. "I'm so, so sorry." She sobbed and Josh arms came around her and pulled her into his chest. Maya couldn't hold it in, she was sobbing hard as her whole body shook. Her ribs were screaming in agony, but she ignored it.

"Oh Maya!" A voice called out. Maya snapped her head up and Josh glared. "I told you, I always win." The shadow that was looming in the woods had turned around and ran further into the woods.

Maya was no longer crying, instead she felt bitterness, hatred and disgust well inside of her. She felt vengeful. Josh noticed the look in her eyes, and his grip came tighter around her.

"Maya-" he tried to warn, but she wasn't listening. Her eyes were glued onto the spot where David had just been before he had turned around and ran off. Suddenly she got up. Josh got up with her and placed a hand on her arm.

"Let me go." She told him, her tone was deadly calm, but her entire body was tense.

"You're not thinking rationally-"

"Get. Off. Of me." Her teeth were gritted, and Josh could feel her trembling, this time out of anger.

"You know I can't let you go after him, Maya. Not like this. Wait until Zay gets back, we know he's heading to his house, we'll catch him." Josh really wanted to wait until the ambulance got here and send her off to the hospital, wanting to deal with David himself.

Suddenly Maya turned on the spot, causing Josh to be taken off guard and him to lose his grip on her and step back a little. Maya was in his face. Then, without a second thought, she leaned in and kissed him.

Josh's eyes widened, he thought that this was strange behavior. He ignored the butterflies that erupted in his stomach, and he ignored the desire to take her into his arms after all this time of being apart. What game was she trying to play?

Then suddenly, Maya pulled away from him. And while Josh was stuck in a gaze, Maya turned away and then ran straight for the entrance of the woods that David had went into. In her hands, was a gun.

Josh immediately felt at his side for his gun, but it wasn't there. He looked back at Maya's retreating from as she ran into the woods and disappeared. She took his gun. That's why she had kissed him. To distract him.

"Damn it, Maya!" Josh called after her, but she didn't stop. And without thinking, he ran after her.
