Felix woke up to someone shaking him. At first, he thought it was still the middle of the night, but after opening his eyes he noticed it was in fact morning. "Lix, wake up." Lina said, still shaking him. "What's up? Am I snoring?" He asked, turning around to lie on his back. "No no, if it was only that. Your pillow is full of hair!" She said, while tears shot into his eyes. Why did he think that the hair loss would stop?! "Oh.." he just said, pulling himself up and looking behind him. There really was a lot of hair. "God, why..?" He quietly asked, resting his head on his girlfriend's shoulder. "Lina, why would god do this to me..? Is there even a god?" He asked, his face already getting hot, as if he was about to cry. "Of course there is a god! I don't know why he does this, but I'm sure he has his reasons." She said and then went silent. Lix started thinking. "Am I on chemotherapy? Because we've just been calling it 'Treatment' the entire time... What kind of treatment is it?" He asked, pressing closer to the girl. "It is chemo, Lix..." She said and he suddenly felt cold. "Do I have cancer then?" The boy asked again, holding onto the girl tight, because he was scared of the answer. "You don't." Lina said and kept talking, but Felix was too relieved to listen. "So is this why I'm loosing hair? And why I've been bruising so easily?" "Well, yes and no. The hair loss is probably from the chemo, I don't know, I'm not an expert, and the bruising is from this genetic disorder that you have, remember? Your blood is just very thin. It's not necessarily a bad thing, at least not for you, but it causes bruises. You used to have a large one on your face if you remember." She said. A bruise on my face? That must've looked horrible. He thought. "I don't want all this to happen- I'm dropping the therapy. I don't care what you say or whatever you try to convince me otherwise, I will not let anyone or anything let my hair go away!" He said, pressing closer to Lina once again. She hugged him tighter as well, as if she was trying to protect him. "Argh, I understand. If you really wanna do it, then it's your choice. I'm not forcing you." The girl said, putting her hand on the back of his head, having him immediately panic. "No! Not the head! Please..." He begged. The girl apologised and moved her hand to his back, rubbing over it. "Will you leave me if I have a bald head? Or bruises everywhere?" Lix asked and the girl let out a short laughter. "Of course not! I'm not your girlfriend because of your good looks, which you have by the way. No matter how you look, you'd be beautiful. You could have a hole in your face and I'd still think you're absolutely beautiful." "But how would that work? Like, if someone has a hole in their face, then they can't live, right? I mean how would they eat or drink?" He asked, loosing the context. He let go of her and Lina shrugged. "I mean you do have a feeding tube. You can be fed through that, you don't really have to eat manually." She said. "Mmh, true. But shouldn't someone be blind if there's a hole in their face?" He asked again. Li sighed and laughed. "Darling let's not talk about this. Do you wanna have breakfast?" She asked and just like they timed it, his stomach growled. Lix looked up to his girlfriend with puppy eyes, already pleading that he could eat himself. He hated the feeding tube even more than he used to hate the wheelchair a while ago. He would probably get accustomed to it after some time, but until then, he hated it. "Goood morning good morning good morning!" Sharon said as she opened the door to the living room, looking as energetic as always. "Are you two ready to eat breakfast?" She asked and both kids nodded. "I made Phil some porridge. If you want you can eat that too, or you can eat a toast. Whatever you want. Here you go." She said as she gave Lina her shoes and went back into the dining room. "And what about the wheel-... Right! I can use my crutches now!" Lix said, hopping around on the couch with his butt because of how happy he was. He grabbed them, put them on the ground and tried to push himself up, but he failed. "Do you need some help?" Lina asked him and Felix let himself fall backwards. "Come on, don't let your negative thoughts take over. Get up." His girlfriend said, grabbing his hands and pulling him up as soon as she stood. She put the crutches in his hands and kept holding him by the waist. "I can do it on my own now." The guy said in his deep voice, kissing the girl before he put her head against his chest. "Your heartbeat... It sounds like music." Suddenly, the whole world seemed to fade, leaving only them in an empty void. That's the feeling that could make all worries and pain go away. Love. "My heartbeat is so loud, I can hear it too." He laughed, putting his hand in the girl's neck. Her hair was open, unlike usually, when it was either in a ponytail or in a bun. He loved the slightly silky and cold feel of it, it was so refreshing. They had to let go eventually, since both of them were starving. On the way to the kitchen, Lix was in danger of falling three times, but thanks to Li he could keep his balance. Arriving in the room, Felix first rushed to the mirror over a dresser, trying to look at his hair and how much he had lost. It didn't look like he had less hair, but it did look different. It looked thinner than before, and it didn't just lay down flat on his head like it used to, it was pointing in all directions and literally flew away if he shook his head a little too hard. "Maybe it's just a bad hair day. Let's not worry about it, okay?" Sharon said and rubbed the boy's back. "Yeah, sure... I'll make myself a toast." He said and went over to the kitchen counter, wanting to get food. But when he put down his crutches, a very horrible pain shot through his right leg, almost causing him to scream, but he scuffed it by biting his lip. He put his flat hand on the counter, so he could still support himself. "Hold on." Phil said, walking up to his son and putting his arm over the younger man's back. "It'll fade soon, don't worry. Just pull through it, you can do it." He said while Felix bit his lip even harder. But, he was right, since the pain was over after a few more seconds. "You see? You're good. Make your toast."
