The next morning I arrived home in what appeared to be rush hour. Jenna was rushing around the living room with Alaric following close behind - Elena and someone else in the kitchen.
Jenna didn't even notice me walking in but I did get whispered "Good Luck" from Alaric before he left the house which confused me a hell of a lot.
With furrowed brows I made my way into the kitchen and grabbed a water bottle from the fridge before turning to face the dining table where Elena and that other person were standing.
I took a swig from my bottle but I didn't get a chance to swallow it because I spat it out once I realized who my sister was with.
It was back.
"Manners." It said disapprovingly as I wiped the excess water from my lips.
"What is that doing here?!" I asked Elena and Jenna in a high pitched voice.
"I'm still confused here." Jenna replied.
It took it as its queue to explain itself. "I decided to come back and stay for a while."
"Not here you're not." Jenna scoffed.
"Actually, you can't stop me from living here." John (ew) said matter-of-factly.
"Actually I can, as legal guardian."
"Yeah, about that... um, Elena, Lily, you want me to explain the situation, or would you like to do the honours?"
"Go back to the hole you crawled out of." I replied defensively and horizontally placed my right index finger in front of my left index finger to make a makeshift cross. I certainly did not need to be reminded of who my actual father is - it made my skin crawl.
"Okay, what's going on?" Jenna questioned with furrowed brows.
"I'm sorry, Jenna. We should have told you earlier, but--" Elena began but was interrupted by that man.
"I'm the girls' biological father." He smiled. I think I may have just threw up in my mouth. "There, now you know."
"What!?" Jenna gaped and the three of us looked around awkwardly while John walked away.
"Oh would you look at the time." I announced as I looked at my wrist where there was no watch. "Time for school, come on, Elena." I grabbed her arm and pulled her out of the house.
Of course we weren't actually going to go to school - we had far more important things to do - but we needed to escape that awkward situation as soon as possible.
And now I had just gotten myself into another awkward situation.
Luckily for me, Elena was the first to converse.
"Look, I'm just gonna put it out there. I'm not a big fan of Damon but I can see that he makes you happy and if you're happy then I'm happy so what I'm trying to say is that I apologize for the way I acted before." She said in one big breath.
It took me a moment to process what she just said and all I could think of saying was a simple "Thank you".
At least that conversation was over.
We hid in the backyard and when we watched Jenna drive away we headed back inside.
I messaged Damon to come over and soon enough he was sat in our living room.
"Where's John?" He asked as he scoped out the place.
"Far, far away hopefully." I muttered.
"He's not here, he left. I don't know where he went. He just blew in, announced to Jenna that he's our dad, and then took off." Elena replied seriously.
