The next day at school I went to talk to Alaric during lunch.

"Oh hey Lily, what's up?" He asked as he looked up from the book he was reading at his desk.

"Can I ask you a favor?" I nervously replied, twiddling my fingers as a way of distracting myself.

"Sure." He removed his feet from the desk and sat up straight.

"You're a vampire hunter correct?" I began and looked at him for confirmation - he nodded. "So you know all about vampires and how to defend yourself against them." I continued and waited for his response.

"Why?" He asked cautiously.

"I'm sick and tired of being the weak, feeble human that has to get rescued by someone else rather than being able to protect myself. It really pisses me off that I have to rely on Damon or Stefan to protect me. I need to learn myself." After my rant I realized I had began to pace back and forth which I stopped immediately once I took notice. I looked back at Ric with a stern face and said "I want you to train me."

A small smile crept onto his face and he nodded his head. "When do you wanna start?"

"Whenever you're free next."

"How about after school today? Meet me at the Grill at four?"

I nodded my head with a relieved smile and began to leave the classroom.

"Thanks, Ric. You're the best." I smiled before I left and walked straight to the cafeteria.

I excitedly waited for the last bell to ring before hurriedly getting into my car and driving home to change into more appropriate clothing.

Once 4pm rolled around I was sat in a booth near the front of the Grill. I was destroying my game of Snake when someone sat next to me.

"You ready?" Alaric's voice rang through my head.

"Uh-huh." I mumbled, my concentration still focused on my phone.

"What is it with teenagers and technology? They al.." He started but I quickly interrupted.

"Alright, alright. I'm ready. No need to lecture me." I extended my arm and waved him off to stop him from being a boomer. I put my phone in my pocket and slid out of the booth,  following Alaric to of the Grill.

"So where are we going?" I asked as I joyfully walked beside him.

"The woods. That's where I go to train. It's quiet. It's peaceful. And there's no one around to watch."

"Good, I run like a retard." I commented, earning a chuckle off Alaric.

._.

"AW. AW. AW." I moaned out in pain with each step I took.

I didn't realize how unfit I was until last night. Ric pushed me harder than I thought he would. My whole body was aching and I was tempted to not go into school today but I received a message from Stefan saying he's coming back in as, and I quote, 'the worst part is over'.

Walking into History, Alaric gave me a smug look as I winced to take my backpack off. I gave him a death stare which only amused him more.

Once everyone had settled down he began teaching.

"Okay, this week we're gonna set outside our regular curriculum for a lesson in local history as we approach Founders' Day. Apparently the community leaders feels it's more important than World War 2 but hey what do I know?" Alaric said sarcastically.
