By the time Elijah started to stir awake it had become light outside. First his finger twitched, then his body began to jerk, and finally his eyes snapped open.

"Morning, sleepyhead." I greeted him as we met eyes, however, the look behind them stayed the same in his crazed state.

"Katerina!" He scowled through gritted teeth.

Definitely not the reunion I imagined.

"Try again." I laughed nervously and thankfully he left his manic state and a look of realisation crossed his face.

He closed his eyes but not for long as he jumped up and gasped for air, "I can't - I can't breath!" He managed to get out. "What's happening to me?"

I didn't get a chance to answer - not like I knew anyways - as he had used his vampire speed to attempt to rush out the door. Unfortunately for him, he ran straight into the wall.

As quickly as I could I sped over to him and wrapped his arm around my shoulders to help him stand and led him out the door.

"I can't... I can't be in this house."

I suddenly realised why and told him, "You're not invited in."

"Then get me out of here." He demanded.

Erm, what do you think I was doing?

He used his supernatural speed to get out the house once we reached the ground floor, occasionally crashing into walls on his way out until he got outside and was able to breath again.

As I reached the front door I saw him crouching on the floor but as soon as he saw me he rushed forwards but was held back by the threshold.

"What happened?"

"Shhh." I instructed and pointed upstairs hoping he'd catch on that Damon and Stefan were here and would probably be able to hear him. "We need to talk. Not here though." I told him. "Can I trust you?"

He scoffed. "Can I trust you?"

To make sure he knew that he could, I reached into my pocket and pulled out the dagger that had been keeping him in his coma-like-sleep and handed it to him.

With a look of reluctance he finally nodded his head and we made our way to my car where we drove in silence until I decided to stop at the side of the road in the middle of the woods to chat with him.

"You look better." I noticed as he finished his fifth blood bag that I had gotten him from the secret stash in Damon's car. He now had some colour in him instead of looking like a piece of charcoal.

"Where did you get the dagger?"

"I'll tell you everything but I need to be certain we can work together again."

"Your ability to make demands is normally your sister's forte and after her little stunt I'm afraid you've both ruined your chances."

"Like you've just said, those were my sisters actions." I pointed out but his mind wasn't going to be changed so easily.

I entered thinking mode to try and come up with a way to show Elijah that we could trust each other. I was coming up short when my phone started to ring.

Just what I needed.

"Where are you?" Came the paranoid voice of Damon through the speaker.

"Don't worry, I'm fine." I replied reassuringly.

"Where's Elijah? Has he hurt you?"

"He's with me. And no, he hasn't."

"Where are you? I'm coming to get you." He said with urgency and I could hear his shoes hitting the wooden floorboards as he stormed through the house.
