Stress.

It was the only word to describe the scene of the Gilbert house the morning of the Pageant.

I had my dress draped over my shoulder as I hurriedly ran down the stairs to the sound of someone knocking at the front door.

I opened the door to Alaric who was stood there with a small smile.

"Hi." I greeted as politely as possible, I was in too much of a rush to be stopping for a nice conversation.

"Hey." He replied and stepped into the house.

"I heard your driving." I shouted from the kitchen.

"Yeah I am." He shouted back.

Elena came downstairs also and started talking to Ric as I took an aspirin for my headache.

As I walked back to the living room I saw the irrelevant thing that was unfortunately related to my adoptive father arrive.

Maybe I should go take another pill for this new headache that just appeared in my hallway.

"Alaric. Hey buddy, what are enough doing here?" John said in a joyous tone that made me want to rip his vocal cords out.

"I'm the chauffeur."

"I thought I was driving." John frowned.

Jenna came from upstairs and replied for us. "No need, we're going with Ric."

"Are you ready?" Elena asked me, to which I nodded.

"Jeremy can ride with you." Jenna sarcastically smiled at John as we all left the house, as I left I did not forget to 'accidentally' shove John on the way out.

It was all a bit of a blur as we drove to the Founders Hall to get ready. Elena helped me with my makeup and Jenna helped me with my hair.

"Thanks for helping me." I smiled into the mirror so Jenna could see me from behind.

"Don't thank me until you're sure your hair isn't gonna burn off." Jenna laughed as she picked up another piece of hair and curled it even more.

"You know I remember when Mom and you were first applying for this, she was so excited." Elena recalled, a ghost of sadness gracing her features.

"So were you if I recall." Jenna smiled.

"Elena was because she didn't have to participate." I rolled my eyes.

Still not over that damn Rock Paper Scissors game.

"I hate to break it to you, but it's a little late for cold feet."

"I don't have cold feet, Jenna. I'm built different." I smirked causing the other two to laugh.

"There's definitely something different about you." Elena joked and nudged me with her arm.

"Rude." I muttered but couldn't keep the smile off my lips. "Okay well, I need to put my dress on now so shoo." I ordered and got up to get my dress.
