Chapter 20: Getting the fire up

16 months later

Clementine's POV

Me, Y/N, Duck, Lee, Carley, Omid, and Christa are in the woods trying to get a fire started. It has but it is not high enough.

Y/N: Christa.

Clementine: Talk to us.

She stayed silent as she continued to get big fire. She hasn't been the same since her baby was gone. We all tried helping her, including Omid.

Christa: This'll never work. Look at this... it's pathetic. The wood's too wet to burn.

Duck: What else can we do?

Christa: Find something to burn. Hard to do in the rain. You three should be doing this, not me.

Omid: We might need to start moving.

Clementine: I'm freezing.

Y/N looked at me. He took off his jacket and wrapped it around me. I give him a worried look.

Clementine: What about you?

Y/N: I will be fine. You keep it.

I give him a thankful smile. Back at the motel, I always had some weird feeling everytime he was around. Now I know what it is. I have a crush on him. But I don't know if he feels the same about me. Even Lee and Carley are smiling at the two of us. Duck got more mature and less annoying too.

Carley: Wait till we get to Wellington, then talk to me about cold. If we make it.

Lee: Us four are gonna go look for more wood. Keep the fire lit you three.

Y/N's POV

Clementine: The lighter should be in my bag.

I get up and find her bag. I get the lighter and light it toward the kindling. I then lit the fire with it.

Y/N: Better but its too low.

I pick up a log and put it in the fire. It was better. I sit back down. I was cold. I tried to hide my shivering from Clem. But she noticed. She scooted next to me and wrapped her arms around me so the jacket covers both of us. I wrap my arm around her, pulling her closer to me.

Clementine: Better?

She asked with a smile. I smiled back.

Y/N: Better.

She lays her head on my shoulder and I lay my head on hers. It was nice. I have a crush on Clem. I liked her for a long time. I hope she likes me back.

Duck: You two having a moment?

He asked with a laugh. Me and Clem blush.

Clementine: Umm.... Um....

Y/N: She's just keeping me warm. You already have your coat on.

Duck: I know. I'm not judging.

I laugh.

Y/N: Sure.

Me and Duck do a little handshake.

???: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!

We started to hear yelling. We decided to check it out. We saw a group surrounding the four.

???: Where's the rest of your group??!

Lee: I- It's just us.

???: Bullshit!

Clem grabbed a rock and threw it.

Clementine: RUN!

Then we started running. Me, Clem, and Duck separated from the others. We heard gunshots. One of the members of the group were chasing us. We outran him a few times until he got a hold on Clem

Y/N: CLEM!

Clem then started biting the guys finger. Which made him let go. I push him into a walker. Then more walkers came after us.

Clementine: We are surrounded!

Duck: This ain't good!

I look at the river.

Y/N: Jump in the river!

Clementine & Duck: What?!

Y/N: Trust me!

We jump in the river as the water takes us away from the woods.

Clementine: Y/N! LOOK!

I look at where she is pointing. We were headed towards a waterfall.

Y/N: OH SHIT! IT GOES DOWN!

Duck: NOOOOOOO!!!

We fall down the waterfall as we all pass out due to the impact.
