Chapter 103: James

Y/N's POV

We followed the talking walker to a campsite, I was carrying AJ. The talking walker points to a log.

???: There.

I put AJ on the log carefully so I didn't hurt him. We look at his wound.

???: Get the shrapnel out.

Y/N: Okay.

Everyone held AJ down as I get my knife and get the buckshot out. He groaned as I got them out.

AJ: Trying not to be loud.

Clementine: It's okay AJ, you're doing good. Just breathe.

???: Stop the bleeding.

Me and Clem put pressure on AJ's wound by putting our hands on it. The talking walker uses duct tape to patch AJ up. AJ tries to get up after that, but me and Clem stop him.

AJ: Where's our stuff?

Carley: We lost it.

Sarita: Sorry buddy.

AJ: Louis and Violet ran. They're safe.

Duck: Yeah.

???: I didn't mean to endanger you guys. The walkers were sent to help you.

Kenny: You sent them?

???: I was part of a group. Called the Whispers. They lived in herds, among them, sometimes even guided them.

Lee: Why are you alone? weren't you with them?

???: They attacked a community, didn't want to be a part of that.

We hear AJ groan.

Clementine: Does it hurt?

AJ: Hungry.

The former Whisper offers us an apple.

???: Eat.

I take the apple, I split it to a bunch of little pieces so all of us could get it.

Y/N: You have a name?

???: Been a while.

Clementine: Since?

???: I said my name.

He takes off his walker mask.

???: My name is James.

Sarita: Why did you help us?

James: The people who attacked you. What do you know about them?

Kenny: They steal kids.

Lee: They took two a year ago.

James: Common practice for them. They're at war, up north. They steal people to make them fight their war.

Carley: That's horrible.

James: That's why I helped you guys.

Duck: Well, thank you.

James smiled at us. We hear a walker nearby. I stand up, about to walk over and kill it, but James stops me.

James: Wait.

He gives me a rock.

James: Throw this. It will distract him, no one gets hurt.

I do as he says and the walker goes away.

James: Thank you.

Me and James sit back down.

Clementine: Do you just hang around in the woods?

James: After leaving my group, all I ever saw was war. It never ends. Where are you guys from?

Clementine: We came from Georgia.

James: Long way from home.

Y/N: It's been a long time since then.

James: It was.

Lee: Where are you from?

James: Washington. The city Washington. Dad ran a food truck. I helped him.

AJ started to breathe heavily. Clem put her hand on his head and then looked at me.

Clementine: He has a fever.

Y/N: The school has medicine.

Duck: Think they will let us back in?

Kenny: Maybe not.

Sarita: But I think they will if they know whats going on.

James: I think that's why they attacked you. To get to that school.

Y/N: Yeah.

Clementine: We need to get back to the school and warn them.

James: I'll help you in a few hours. I'll give you guys time to sleep. I'll stay awake and keep watch.

Y/N: What about you?

James: Not tonight. Don't need it. Rest well you guys.

Clem yawns and lays on my shoulder.

Clementine: Goodnight Y/N. Love you.

Y/N: Love you too Clem. Goodnight.

Clem falls asleep. I rest my head on Clem's head and we all fall asleep as well.
