Chapter 43

I woke up the next morning, my head resting on Gary's chest, his arm wrapped around my shoulders, and as I looked up he was grinning down at me.

"Good morning handsome" I smiled up.

"Good morning my lovely fiancée."

My smile grew bigger as he said that. Gary took my left hand in his and softly brushed his thumb over my ring. I felt the butterflies in my stomach as I realised that I was engaged to the love of my life. "Suits you very much, that does."

"You think? I think it's very beautiful too, maybe a bit too lavish, but that's your ego" I teased him.

"Hey! I only get to do this once in my life!"

"I know, I know. Only joking." We laughed together and continued snuggling for a bit longer, before finally getting up.

"I think we should call our parents, don't you honey?"

I nodded "Yes. Mine or yours first?"

"Whatever you want."

I smiled nervously "Yours."

"Okay." Gary grabbed his phone and dialled his mums number.

She immediately answered "Hello?"

"Hiya mum."

"Oh, Gary. How are you? And how's Clara?"

He smiled at me "We're both fine, thanks. How are you lot?"

"Good."

"Uhm, is dad around too?"

"Yes, he is right next to me."

He swallowed "We have to tell you both something mum."

I heard Gary's dad answer "Spill it. We can both hear you."

"Well, you know it was Clara's birthday yesterday?"

"Oh yes. Sorry love, Happy late Birthday" his mum said to me.

I smiled "Thank you. But I think Gary wants to tell you what he got me."

"Go on son" Gary's dad spoke.

"Mum, dad, we're engaged."

We smiled at each other while Gary's parents sounded excited. "Congratulations!"

"Gary you couldn't have chosen a better person."

Gary grinned at the phone "Thanks."

We ended the call and then called my parents and to be honest I was far more nervous this time. -What would dad say?- I had to take Gary's hand in mine, it had a calming effect on me. "Gary I'm nervous."

"Don't be. If someone has to be nervous it's me. And believe me everything will be fine."

I nodded and dialled my parents' number.

"Wellington?"

"Hi dad."

"Clara! Everything alright?"

"Yeah. Is mum around too?"

"She is, wait I'll pass you over to her."

"No! I want to talk to you both."

"Oh. Okay." I could hear my dad talking to my mum and then she spoke too "Hi love! What is it?"

I smiled, still nervous "Gary and I want to tell you something..."

"Then tell us!" my mum laughed.

I took a deep breath "We're engaged."

My mum squealed "Aww! You two! Congratulations! Andrew you end the call I've got to go buy a new hat."
