In a post-apocalyptic flooded world, the last remaining humans live on large Navy aircraft carriers huddled together forming a city. The richest people enslaved and oppressed the rest of the masses to maintain total control and power.

When Ana was about 12 years old, she had begun to realize that she needed glasses because she couldn't see very well during school.
Her parents went around the city searching for glasses and were able to find her a pair that worked.
Ana felt embarrassed wearing them the first time that she showed up at school with them on.
She felt like her face had changed and she could see that everyone was surprised by her.
It took her time to adjust, but after awhile, she got comfortable with her appearance and didn't care what other people thought.

DURING CLASS ONE DAY, Amaia Jiménez noticed a Girl with glasses (Ana) playing chess against another Girl (Yumi) and went over and watched.
"You win." said Yumi resigning the game to Ana.
Yumi got up from her chair and then Ana said—
—"Who wants to play next?"
Amaia was intrigued and curious about Ana's skill level and walked over toward her.
Amaia sat down across from Ana and said—
—"I'll play you."
Then they started setting up the pieces on the board.
It was a long close game that went back and forth.
Ana made the last move of the game to beat Amaia.
Amaia looked at the board and realized that she couldn't win.
It was the first time another Girl had ever beaten her before in chess.
Amaia looked wide eyed at Ana wondering how a poor Girl from the South part of the city could have possibly beaten her.
When She had spent her whole life living in the wealthy and higher educated North part of the city.
Amaia said curiously—
—"Who are you?"
"I'm Ana Sánchez. Do you give up?"
Amaia knocked over her own king resigning the game and tried to hide her look of extreme frustration and anger that she lost.
AFTER SCHOOL, Amaia went home to a small shack in one of the Southern ships where she and her older sister Natalia were living by themselves.
Natalia was a year older than Amaia and had long dark hair and was taller than Amaia.
They ate whatever scraps of food they could get that day.
And Natalia looked miserable because she knew the day that she would be sent off to work in the fishing ship was fast approaching, which meant that Amaia would have to live alone for a year until she had to be sent off on the fishing ships also.
Amaia saw that Natalia looked miserable and tried to cheer her up by saying—
—"You know this is only temporary, right? As soon as we can, we're gonna find those bastards that framed them and then everything will go back to the way it was."
Natalia however, knew that was not true.
It was a pipe dream at this point.
But she did not want to crush Amaia's spirit by telling her that, so she said sadly—
—"I know. I just wish they were here."
MEANWHILE, THAT NIGHT, RAFAEL came home after working on the submarine and found Julieta standing on the ship's edge staring out at the night sky.
Julieta clutched her Rosary necklace and prayed. Rafael walked over to her and said—
